I have a need to know. Is there a thread? Can't find. Would like to export to PC with audio files, plugs, mixes.
Thanks, GB

I did the 30 day trial with the Windows version. Other than the obvious stuff, like not be able to use AU plugins, I didn't come across any problems saving a DP 8.05 project in Mac OS 10.8.5 and opening it in Windows 7.
Do a search for Windows in the PDF manual and scan the instances with an upper case W in the sidebar, you'll a lot of little differences that aren't related to the project itself, but are linked to particular OS functions.
I'm sure over time, we'll unearth all sorts of little things that don't translate but functionally, I found the two versions to be the same -- more so, for instance, than the Mac and Windows versions of Cubase.

That's interesting BW. AUs are a big deal as that's pretty much what I use and Waves plugs only operate in DP Mac in AU currently. A friend in Oregon is thinking about doing DP but needs to know what the best results might be compatibility wise as he has a Neve studio and wants to do DP client mixes as a service through his board, me included. If Macs can do both VST and UA then Y not PC's? I'm just throwing that out there. Who knows what's involved. I know UAD works with both.

Well, AU is simply not available on Windows. Nothing to do with DP compatibility.
I haven't tried the translation of presets or settings from AU to VST. I didn't have Waves authorized on my PC. My test was with a load of Blue Cat and other free VST plugins. I'd be surprise if you can save a project with AU Waves in the inserts and load it in Windows, and get the PC VST version to duplicate the settings, or that Windows VST can read Mac AU preset files.
The latter could be tested using any PC app that can use a Waves plugin.

Your right. VST and AU does not cross pollinate the save settings in DP Mac so there would obviously be no way to get it on export to PC. Too bad that one. Not sure about VST in Mac on export to PC though. Would need to test that one.

My understanding is that the reason MOTU put VSTs in both Mac and Windows versions was to be able to open the projects in either. So that is likely to work within the limits imposed by VST technology itself. I don't know if presets would translate readily, but the settings in a project would have to. And I suppose you could guarantee it by taking an all inclusive automation snapshot at the start of the project.

I hear ya on that. Well pretty soon he'll have the demo loaded and we can drop box some projects and run some tests. Will be interesting and I'll report here. Thanks BW

One other mention here. VST's seem to be VERY slow in 8. I tried them with my UAD plugs using the multi band compressor and its tenuous at best.

I haven't noticed any difference for the VSTs I use. But I don't use UAD.

When I have tried to upload DP5 projects made on a Power PC Mac to DP8 Windows version, the projects uploaded but the audio files did not. I always get a error message. I consulted the beta testers about this conundrum with no luck. I gave up and haven't tried in a while, although I have some old projects I would love to remix and remaster in DP8.

Considering your system I would just take the files, SDII i would think and find a converter to B-cast Wave. Hopefully, they are merged files. If not you have little chance to sync them as SDII does not include time stamps. Find a used 200 buck G5 and reload them into DP and merge the files. Make sure they are all merged to the front of the click off/top of tune and try to export as AIFF. Not sure DP8 will handle an SDII so some jumping through hoops likely necessary. I have old sessions like that and I don't expect it to be easy if I ever have to go backwards to PPC tracks. Good luck.

Thanks Timeline. I still have a G4 and G5. I'll see if I can fire them up. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

. I always get a error message
It could be a number of things.
Trying to diagnose the problem without knowing the error message is a crap shoot.
