Hi : I have a Midas Venice 320 and Motu 2408/1296/mac G4 connected . I buy an Avalon preamp and the way I‘m tracking is as follows :
I connect the out of the Avalon preamp to one channel of the mixer, then I select the channel bus to one of the four groups of the Midas,the out of the mixer groups is connected to a plug (1/4¨) DBX PB-48 patch bay, the in for my 1296 is connected to the same patch bay, so I interconnect the out of the mixer to the in of my 1296. I can control the volume for the musicians headphones by the Midas without altering the level of the signal to the 1296. I think that is working well, but maybe there is another way to connect the preamp to work better.Do anybody have a comment ? Sorry for my english I hope everybody can undersand me.

Try using the patchbay as a half normalled/multing device. In other words, if you can set the patchbay up in a half normalled mode (top rear feeds bottom rear until a plug is inserted in bottom front) you'll be able to use the Midas for monitoring while going directly from the 737 to the 2408 for a cleaner recording by bypassing the Midas opamps.

In half normalled mode (see patchbay manual) - connect the 737 output to the top rear of any channel in the patchbay. Now connect an input of the 2408 to the bottom rear of the same channel. Without any cables in the front of the bay you should now be able to feed the 2408 from the 737. Now insert a cable into the top front of the bay, where the 737 is. The other end of the cable can now go to a channel of your Midas, if you have those in the bay as well.

The result is what is called a "mult" or multiple. The 737 is now feeding the 2408 directly as well as going to a channel of the Midas. This gives you a cleaner signal to DP without giving up the advantages of monitoring through the Midas.
