VCA type control - Sluggish / lagging plugin response

Using either Slate VCC or Waves NLS plugin with DP 8.05, has anyone else experienced sluggish behavior when adjusting the volume of tracks grouped to the same plugin "vca" group?
For example, with Slate, adjusting the Group input control, or Waves, adjusting the group trim, the audible change in volume across the assigned tracks is jumpy. Some tracks will change first, then others, etc. it can take several seconds for the change to take full effect.
I'm trying to use either plugin to enable some type of VCA style control of volume across several tracks, without assigning said tracks to a common buss.

Thanks!

Just to answer my own question and in case anyone else is interested, it seems these plugins work best in real time, as opposed to having the option set to pre render. In real time, the volume transitions are as they should when linking channel instances.
