Can one use QT Pro 7 in Mavericks?

Hello.

Now that my system upgrade is almost imminent, I'm considering which my essential apps are, and I'm wondering about QT 7 Pro. I use it a lot, but I'm worried Apple replaced it with a later version, which if understand correctly, it doesn't have some of the former version's functionality.

Anyone using it with Mavericks successfully?

If not, any suggestions for replacements?

Thanks!

It works here. I do, however, have a few other apps for conversions - some seem easier and more flexible than QT Pro, but it does work as before. I have 7.6.6 which I think is the last update. The new QT has some nice stuff too. I have both and use the new version mostly for screen recording.

Hello FMiguelez,

Yes, it works just fine with Maveriks.
I tested QT Pro 7.6.6, the very day 10.9 became available, you're good to go.

Not so fast!

You have a G5. No doubt you have QT 7.7 in the Applications folder. This will not work after OS 10.5.x and must be trashed if still present on your system after the update.

Not to worry. There is an installer for QT 7.6.6 that you can download free from Apple after you upgrade. This will put 7.6.6 in the Utilities Folder where it belongs for OS 10.6-10.9 (do not move it into Applications where it will conflict with QT 10.3 - essential to the OS). If you migrated your profile to the new machine, your QT 7 Pro Key should be present when you check QT Preferences. If not, you can log into your iTunes Account and retrieve it. Remember that both your registered name and key must match the profile in the iTunes Store or QT 7 Pro won't accept the license.

There are certain things that QT Pro does particularly well. Much of the functionality is found in other apps now but I am not looking forward to the day when it no longer works.

I like these apps a lot. Cinematize Pro is also good now that it's been updated.

Hang onto QT Pro as long as you can. Apple keeps taking functionality away, such as MIDI and most recently it seems WMA as I can no longer play those after the recent updates (and haven't had time to search for possible replacements or plug-ins that fix the problem in QT). My bandleader sends out WMA's of stuff we're working on so it's become a big issue.

Try Flip4 Mac and the Flip Player found here: http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/overview.htm

Both have free versions.

Flip4 Mac needs to be updated for Mavericks. If you had it installed, you should find some of the files in your Incompatible Applications Folder. It doesn't remove the old version from the Applications folder - you should trash that before installing the latest version.
