Mavericks: Forgetting Log-in Items and Fast Fan Speed

I'm having to persistent problems with Mavericks, 10.9.1:
1) It continues to somehow forget one of my Log-In items. smcFanControl should launch at log-in and on many occasions it doesn't and has disappeared from the list of log-in items and I must re-add it.
2) Often on first boot of the day, my fan speed is high. About 2,000 rpm and it won't go to normal speed until I do a re-boot.
Any ideas. These are minor problems and I can live with them, but if anybody knows an easy potential fix, I'm all ears!

I'd re-apply the update.

...after repairing permissions, running all routines, etc.

I don't think I downloaded the updater. Issues preceded 10.9.1. I think it happened with initial Mavericks install.

I vaguely recall having to update smcfancontrol somewhere in these updates. I'm at v 2.4.
As for fan speed, 2,000 rpm is the basic speed on all my Macs. Is the pro different? The info screen doesn't list the Pro specifically, but warns that the app does not know defaults for all Macs. In that case you need to create a setting.
No idea why it would work in startup sometimes and not others. Does it appear in the login startup items, and autostart checked in the app options?

My smcFanControl is version 2.4 also. Although Creation Date puts it at August 21, 2012. Seems something newer should be out.
2,000 rpm isn't normal. It's fast. Usually my MacPro cruises along at about 800rpm. 2,000 is noticeably loud.

Did you try creating a setting with a minimum at 800? It is probably using 2000 because it doesn't know the default for your Mac.

Yes I did. Sometimes it's just ignored and I have to restart, then all is well.

I haven't had any problems so I haven't looked at the site, but now I see the last update was Aug 2012 and that was to support 10.8.
