Now I won't sleep for a month. What an elegant machine!

Thanks for posting.

I could get what I want for less than I thought - as long as I don't need that 32" monitor - and I don't. Don't need TB-2 peripherals yet either. Hex core, 16G Ram, 1G flash drive, 27" monitor.

Not yet for me but, if the job goes well... My book advance might make a nice down payment when I receive it - I know how much but don't know when.

Long time ago, before the PPC, someone wrote that the computer you want is $6K and the one you need is $3K - or something like that. Well, that's still true for me. Wow!

Fortunately, I am not in a hurry. Maybe this Spring or Summer.

I still have to get a TB to FW convertor for my Track 16 and external drives and video interface, but otherwise I don't really need the PCI cards as long as i can expand (multiply) my USB ports. I'm thinking within the next two BMI distributions and keeping the MP as a backup and to farm out VIs if necessary. Then again, I may wait a little longer as I am really very happy with the current machine.

Decisions, decisions...

MLC,

Think of all the productive work you'll get done being sleepless for the next month. Yes, you're welcome.

It's a double sided sword. Sleepless until I get one, then sleepless playing with the damn thing! :)

My wife is faculty and my older daughter is a grad student. Since my son-in-law can use his employee hardware discount only once a year, it's rarely available. So, for me, I always compare between the Refurb store and EDU pricing.

With a refurb 27" TB monitor and EDU on the hex core 32G Ram with 1G flash, AppleCare, taxed and delivered, it's under $6,000. A TB-eSATAx2 hub @ $200 takes care of my immediate external drive needs until the TB-2 peripheral market sorts itself out.

"Honey... I need $6,200... oh, no hurry, sometime this spring. Yea, I promise to get taxes done on time this year."

Or maybe the $3K iMac that will do the job.

In the words of Pete Townsend: "I want it, I want it, I want it, I want it.!"

And to think I came here tonight to find the topic to complain again about UA leaving UAD-2 Duo and Quad users in the dust. :( I'm going to have to learn to be happy with what I have, especially since as it stand now, my...

• MOTU PCIe-424 card
• MOTU HD192 interface
• MOTU 24 I/O interface
• UAD-2 Duo card

... will all be rendered incompatible with the new MacPro unless we get news from MOTU that the PCIe-424 will be able to work in a TB-to-PCIe expansion chassis, and UA reverses it's statement that the Duo and Quad won't be compatible with a TB-to-PCIe expansion chassis, either.

I would love to ask UA just why the UAD-2 Octo is projected to be compatible with "qualified" expansion chassis, but somehow the less expensive Duo and Quad cards aren't? In fact, it's going on my list of thing to do at NAMM in just about a month or so. I don't want to grill those guys unfairly, but I'd like to hear why. Maybe I better go peruse the UA forum. :(

I know some of you also do FCP (although not me) so I thought I'd post this for the curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-myFXiEh2Q

Best,

As I expected, those pre-release Geekbench tests that are supposed to be telling us how these aren't really all that much better are worthless. This is the intended market for the new machine – in case there was any doubt. Audio recorders get to come along for the ride if their budgets can take the hit.

I have friends who will be placing orders the second that they see this video.

18 effects in non-rendered Red FCP 4K ... Why 18? Because they have a deadline.

Holy cow!
