Live Rig Redundant System

Greetings from NJ,
I put together a DP8, MOTU 828mkiii redundant system that will playback backing tracks and at the same time send patch changes to the guitar rig and keyboard rig.
In the audio side of things, if one laptop fails, the system switches to the other laptop via a Radial SW8 rack.
Now i need some info on the MIDI side of things. I have a MOTU 128 Express sending the MIDI changes. The unit is connected via USB to 1 laptop...
So i was wondering... how can i make the MIDI redundant??
Can i connect the MIDI outputs of each 828 to the 128 expresss? or do i need some kind of MIDI splitter?
i need both laptops to send MIDI changes, and if one goes down, the other one will continue....just like in the audio side of things.
any help will be appreciated.
thanx
