Trashing a .dmg…
I created a .dmg only to realize I didn't need it. There is nothing contained in the disk image.
I drag it to the trash and initiate the empty trash command and the progress bar travels about half way across
and hangs… It won't complete the empty trash routine. I check and double check to make sure there is nothing
contained ………… check !
Any clues ?
Many TIA

Re: Trashing a .dmg…
Have you tried ejecting it using Disk Utility? Maybe that will do the trick.

Also a restart or log out and back in if the eject doesn't work. You might be able to simply eject it from the finder.

Re: Trashing a .dmg…
Are you the owner of the file?
I'd double check via command-I. Even if it is, try setting read/write privileges to yourself and do the "Apply to Enclosed items" command. Then try again.
Also, if your .dmg is not too large, you could try the "Empty Trash Securely " command, or even deleting the file via Applescript.
Sometimes quitting/restarting the "Finder" also helps.

Re: Trashing a .dmg…
The utility app Trash It will probably fix that for you. I've used it with success before on stuck files like the one you are describing.

Reboot and see if there's a problem. Highly unlikely. Chances are that, whatever file you created it in is still active. Also a restart or log out and back in if the eject doesn't work.

Re: Trashing a .dmg…
It's probably time to repair your permissions with DiskUtility to avoid further issues. I would also recommend OnyX to keep your file structures and system files in order. It's a highly regarded free utility made by the french developer. Opening and finishing a fine bottle of french wine whenever these issues appear is another attractive option.
