Why is offline bounce so slow?
I'm curious as to why offline bounce isn't faster. For example, in some cases I am just bouncing from a stereo track, 1-2 minutes long, no plugins in the chain, and it's still taking 20-30 seconds to bounce and export. I can't figure out, what is DP calculating?
I'm running DP 8 on a mac, 12-core mac pro. This should be peanuts for this rig....

Try selecting Core Audio as your offline bounce option.

Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
How do I do that? Thanks!
Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
If you're talking about the "file formats" dialog... I've been using the CoreAudio export option.
Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
Found this old thread while looking for some ideas about speeding up offline bouncing. I am printing stems for a show, and just made the change from realtime recording to offline bouncing. It goes slightly faster than real time, but man.... it doesn't really save any time. VEP is the only thing I have going outside of DP. The bounces always sound perfect, but I really would like to see it go faster. Any thoughts on getting it happen?

Having DP and your projects on an SSD makes the process go faster. Much, much, much faster.

Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
That's an interesting idea, and I just tried it. Didn't make a big difference though. When I bounce offline in LIVE, it goes by almost instantly, only slowing down on heavy processing parts. I feel like the DP bounce is almost real time, all the way through the track. Even the parts without any MIDI playing. Weird stuff.

32 GB. I hope that's enough. I'm going to try some tests later after I finish writing. Maybe it's some random setting I forgot about.

Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
Yeah, it's definitely not optimized. Even "bouncing" a .WAV file to a .WAV file makes DP think really hard.
Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
Yes, bounces in DP have alway been much slower than bounces in Logic or Cubase too. I've assumed DP uses a different method. Makes little difference to me because I usually do bounces in real time and listen.

Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
Now that I am on an SSD, my bounces happen so quickly that, at first I thought they weren't working. Then I saw a clean bounce for every attempt in the Bounces folder.
Some of my VIs are on a spinner over 3G eSATA. Things slow down to normal when I make calls to them. That will change in a few hundred $$$.

Re: Why is offline bounce so slow?
A good test is to bounce at the same settings as the project. That should go fast. Other formats may require more time depending on how big the files are. If you have other apps such as DSP Quattro you might try an A-B comparison.
