Latest iTunes

Post by nick danger »

Anybody else having problems with iTunes 11.1.1?

I've found I have to repair permissions before I open it (and get literally hundreds of permission repairs associated with iTunes.) Otherwise, it's very sluggish, and eventually beachballs, and then seems to affect every other app. Brought the whole computer down once, and when I tried to restart, it failed to recognize the internal system drive, and wanted to install a new system. Anyway, managed to work around that, but something is really screwed up.

I do-- just need to update my profile.

Does anything show up on permission repairs for you?

Same here, and if I repair a second time, they continue to show up.

Looks like it's all localization files that have apparent permissions errors.

I keep reading elsewhere that most of the error reports you get using Repair Permissions are not actually errors, are not actually repaired, and so will keep showing up.

My main beef with iTunes is it gets updated way too often. Wish they'd get it working and leave it alone for a while.

Known issue came in with 11.1. Apple Support says it is not causing any problems. Fix is promised since it is annoying everybody. Support boards really lit up when it wasn't dealt with in 11.1.1.

I have no real way of knowing if it's causing any problems. But it sure seems to coincide with some very strange behavior by iTunes.

I am not having any problems with it on any of the 5 Macs around here. Did you run the 10.8.5 supplemental updater?

On occasion, I've been getting those "folders full" of iTune repair messages since Snow Leopard (and before, I think). I researched it once on the the Apple site and apparently there's no harm done by them. I'm surprised to read that this might be the first time anyone (here) is getting them. I ain't an expert on this stuff, but this has been going on for a relatively long time.
Computer:
Apple's M2 Mac Studio with 96 RAM; macOS X 14.5; 1 Internal SSD, 8 External SSDs, MOTU 828es audio device, AKAI MPK88 Keyboard Controller

Software:

I think most of the messages will disappear if you run Monolingual. There are 50 "errors" per language, and iTunes will run in a lot of languages. (You'll also save about 4G)
