Periodic clicking sound from VE Pro 5

I recently set up VE Pro 5 on a new Macbook Pro (quad i7 / SSD). It has been running very well, however, I am now getting a periodic clicking sound whenever I play a sound. It does this no matter what instrument or VI is being triggered.

Anyone had this problem?

I neglected to mention that my main computer is a Mac Pro - the Macbook Pro is being used as a slave only . . .
