Mixer track width
Im back on DP from v5, and have scoured the manual for setting the width of the tracks in the mixer window. All I can find is normal and narrow. Is there a way to make them and wider than default? With my naming convention, sometimes the name of the track gets shortened.

Re: Mixer track width
I think the normal and narrow are the only choices available. But if I'm wrong, somebody chime in and correct me.

Re: Mixer track width
Best learn to name your tracks carefully. You can exceed the width of the mixing board channel strip and still have meaningful names in the board if you know how it truncates the names. Just be sure that the first and last few characters are unique. It's not ideal, but I've used it for a long, long time this way, and I've had no problem recognizing long track names when I follow that rule.
I think the rule is 4 upper case or 5 lower case/numerical characters at the beginning and likewise aft will show up when it all gets truncated. Truncation happens after 14 lower-case characters, numbers, and spaces. Actually, it depends on WHICH characters you use. I was able to get 29 of the letter i without truncating, but only 7 upper-case W's. Not that I would; just that I could.
I'd love to see long names wrap to another line or two in the Mixing Board. Better still, I'd like to see an entire comments field at the bottom of each channel.

Re: Mixer track width
I like the idea of wrap around names with as many lines as needed at the bottom of the mixer. Meanwhile, when I have long names, I keep a channel strip window open set to 3 columns. (25 Ws)

Re: Mixer track width
Thanks. I didn't think I could. It really is only a problem when I have multiple guitar trax. I like to know which mic was used and which version. I thought I could in Logic, but been a while.

Re: Mixer track width
Don't forget that there actually IS a comments field in each track. It's primarily viewable in the Tracks Overview window, and the Track Inspector window. (or maybe it's another of those extra little windows)sevenone wrote:I like to know which mic was used and which version. I thought I could in Logic, but been a while.
The comments field is often out of view, a little inconvenient to use, and easily overlooked or forgotten, but it's there, and when you have very important information which needs to stay with its source, it's worth taking the time to add a comment.
I used to use it for noting the MIDI bank/patch/program etc. on my old MIDI rack gear and keyboards. The output might get screwed up, but I'd always know the instrument for which I originally intended that part. Those still come in handy when I go back and open files from 20 years ago. There's no way on earth I'd still remember that it was originally set for E/62/07 or something as arcane as that. But the information is there in a number of my old tracks, and it really makes a difference now.
Chunks also have comments.
