Noob help : How can I know how many output channels a SC has

Post by oukourj »

Hi@all,

This topic is another try to solve my situation here:
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 8&p=464898

If I you answer to my question here, I guess I could answer this question by myself :)

Question is pretty simple :
In an Audio Interfaces' manual or specs sheet, what is the term I have to watch for in determining how many Outputs will be shown in my DAW ?

Is it "Analog Outputs", or... ???
The question exists because when they say "headphones output", it doesn't mean that this Output will be configurable in a DAW... !!
So, as Output is not the exact term... what is the technical term ?

Sorry for explanations-overkill :deadhorse: but I wasn't sure I was clear...

Thanks !

What specific interface are you interested in? As all manufacturers are different, you have to check each one specifically. 90% of the time the HP is also configurable and can be considered a separate output. Most websites are pretty clear about the number of IO. If that doesn't help you, look at the back and the front and count the holes.

Ideally, you would just add up the outputs described for the product, but often physical outputs can be duplicates, e.g., the headphone output might simply mirror a pair of the analog outs. Sometimes you can see a report of 'simultaneous' inputs and outputs. Sweetwater (click on the ad above) usually shows the number of ins and out that can be addressed independently, simultaneously, etc.
