Edge Edit Crash
Out of the blue, I'm getting an edge edit crash.
It only happens on one chunk.
It started today on a chunk that has lots of audio tracks, but very little strain on the CPU.
I recorded a couple of new short audio tracks and went to shorten them.
The edge moved slightly and then the beach ball.
Lasted bout 30 seconds and then DP7.24 was gone.
I opened DP again and checked all of the other chunks in the sequence.
They are all fine.
I went back to the problem chunk and tried it again..... crash.
Opened DP again, went back to the problem chunk and tried edge editing the front of various soundbites.... no problem.
I tried edge editing the back of a previous audio track and.... crash.
I loaded the bad chunk in to a new project and is behaves the same.... crash on editing the back of any soundbite.
System has been running flawlessly for months.
Anyone have any insight?
OS 10.8.4, 32gigs ram, mac pro 5,1

I've had similar experiences. Ended up Merging to get past it. Figured it was corrupt audio.waterstrum wrote:Out of the blue, I'm getting an edge edit crash.

Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like this happens for other folks too.
Any advice for avoiding it in the future or fixing the messed up chunk?

Re: Edge Edit Crash
I recall that one of the incremental updates to DP 8, possibly the latest 8.04, was reported as addressing edge-editing issues such as you describe. All I can say is DP8.04 64 bit under 10.8.3 has been very robust for me. I have experienced only one crash since updating.

Re: Edge Edit Crash
Thanks HC,
Maybe this is a good reason to jump to DP8.
I've had it sitting in the box here since it first came out.
Tried it a few times, but had issues.
Maybe it is all fixed now.

Re: Edge Edit Crash
Got it again today.
Just one track in a very large sequence.
Editing the back edge of a split would cause a spinning beach ball and then a crash.
Running a very clean system with plenty of open disk space.
I'm still on 7.24, so I know I can't complain.
Does this still happen on DP8?
What causes this?
Thanks

Re: Edge Edit Crash
Had edge edit crashes on DP 7 and still get them occasionally in DP 8. Might be somewhat less frequent in DP 8. Still on Snowleopard and running 32 bit DP.

Re: Edge Edit Crash
Had it again today,
Bit me in the butt.
I had done two insert recordings and hadn't saved. My bad.
I went to edit the right edge of one of them and ...... spinning beachball.... crash.
Embarrassing for a voice over session.
I usually hit save after every move.... now my workflow is do something/save, do something/save.
Prudent, but I don't have to do this on any other software that I'm using.
Does anybody know the secret to the edge edit crash?
I'm still on 7.24, but reports are saying the same thing is happening on 8.
Help!

Re: Edge Edit Crash
I have yet to have an edge edit a crash on system as currently configured. See my sig.
Since moving to DP8.04 and 10.8.3, DP has been very solid. I've had three crashes, sudden quits, in two months but have had a lot of uptime and run many sessions without incident. Mostly small to mid-size projects, but one with a ton of tracks and VIs. Two of my quits came on that project, over a period of weeks, both when tracking if I recall correctly.

Re: Edge Edit Crash
Not a single crash with 8.04. Solid. 8.02 was a disaster, skipped 8.03 (all of about 2 weeks of it). 8.04 cleared up issues that I didn't even think were DPs fault!

PM, what issues were you having with 8.02?Prime Mover wrote:Not a single crash with 8.04. Solid. 8.02 was a disaster, skipped 8.03 (all of about 2 weeks of it). 8.04 cleared up issues that I didn't even think were DPs fault!
I'm still on 8.01 / OSX 10.6.8, because I did not want to change anything in the middle of multiple projects. (I do get crashes every other day or so for unknown and probably unduplicable reasons but I do save after almost every move.)
The smoke has cleared a bit, now, so I'm thinking of 8.04.
Thanks!

If you're worred, I offer my standard "Clone Don't Moan" admonishment, but I have found DP8.04 to be extremely stable under OS 10.8.3. If you are having a lot of issues, you might even want to bite the bullet and start from scratch with a clean OS installation as you enter the 64 bit world.
There were reportedly some changed in Audio under OS 10.8.4, and I recall seeing some comments recently aobut Kontakt under 10.8.4 as well, which have caused me to hold off on that version of OSX.
Re: Edge Edit Crash
Still fairly new to the party, but so far, DP8.04 in OS 10.8.4 is a dream. Also running Kontakt 5 (current version, whatever that number is...) So far so a-ma-zing.
Running DP8 in 64bit. Hey, that's the whole reason I went to DP8...
