Wandering Internal clock

I have been using DP since DP4.5. Recently with the availability for windows, I have decided to take advantage of writing my MIDI drum tracks (I use Superior Drummer 2.0) on my lap top (getting me out of the basement studio for a bit). I was very excited about this until I realized I must be having internal clock issues. My metronome does not keep a steady meter rather, it (along with the programmed drum sounds) wanders slightly, some beats hitting a bit early and others dragging behind (something I have never experienced on a MAC and am not experiencing with DP8 on mac. Interestingly it is random (not the same drum or beat on any given play through). Its driving me nuts. I just want to program some drum lines and with the wandering meter, its just about impossible to write as the feel/groove is just not there. Please help. Maybe its my cheap lap top (Toshiba L505D-S5983). It is a far cry from My new maxed out iMac, but for gosh sakes Im just asking it to keep time, something a computer should be capable of (even an old commodore 64 could do that pretty well. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I've not noticed this problem on my laptop (yet!) and use EZdrummer (superiors poor cousin).

What audio interface/drivers are you using? If using on board audio ASIO4ALL seems to give good results for me and I've tried it on a couple of different laptops.

Im using no interface with the lap top (just programming drums with the intent to transfer the drum tracks to my iMac where all other tracking/mixing etc. Is to be performed.). I use an 828mkii on the iMac, but that obviously has no bearing on my problem. I use whatever driver came with the laptop (or its auto update as this thing is always updating without much explanation)

Windows Audio is pretty lame as far as latency, so MIDI probably isn't all that great also. I don't know if ASIO4ALL will fix any MIDI issues, but at least audio latency will be improved. You can download ASIO4ALL here http://asio4all.org/. It's not without its own issues, but better than the stock Windows stuff. I think it depends on how well written your onboard audio drivers are. Anyway, ASIO4ALL has been problematic for me, but I have a couple of portable devices with their own asio and MIDI drivers that have no problems.

I second NazRat, Windows drivers are pretty dodgy for real time audio, try ASIO4ALL and see how you get on it usually works OK with the Realtek chipsets (that I think your laptop has). It should certainly be good enough for doing your drum lines.

I've run some quite big projects on my laptop with DP8 using ASIO4ALL and a realtek chipset on board sound device so it is certainly possible.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Nothing like having a drummer who can keep time. NazRat, you da man! And thank you as well Horobi!
