I tried searching for this topic but came up empty. I'm sure it's been discussed so if there's a thread to read, point me to it. thanks!
I'm running DP 8.01
mac os x 10.6.8
quad core 3,1
putting DP into 64 bit mode I can instantiate UAD plugins but they come up empty.
any ideas? do I need to upgrade to mt. lion?

UAD-2 7 is working on 10.68 with my Mac, which is older than yours. They have worked with the DP 8.02 and DP 8.03 demos. My only quirk with UAD-2 ver. 6 & 7 has been with presets not remembering the name of the chosen preset when reopening a project. This also happened with DP 7.24.

According to the website, when UA plugs went 64-bit, they required a 64-but kernel.
From the 6.4.1 release notes:
System Requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is required
• Mac OS X 64-bit kernel mode is required

64-bit kernal makes sense. i tried to boot into 64-bit mode in the os by holding down the 64 keys but for some reason it didn't work. i decided to go ahead and upgrade to mt. lion. i'm sure this will address the issue.
thanks!

Actually, with the 6.5 release, Snow Leopard support was reinstated, and 64-bit operation when booted in 32-bit kernel was made possible. I don't think that's changed with v7 (although I haven't installed it yet).

UAD-2 ver. 7 does work with 32 bit kernel and 64 bit app.

Thanks for reporting that, RROY -- good to know!

well, i'm sad to say that UAD-2 is not working in DP in 64-bit mode with old projects and my current templates that had a UAD instantiated. This will make mixing old projects rather difficult.

There must be something wrong with the software install. Or maybe your UAD-2 card needs to be reseated.
In this situation, I'd probably try the Uninstall/Reinstall procedure for UAD, to make sure the drivers and plugs were A-OK. Obviously they should work, and do, even with your current OS.

If that didn't work, I'd reseat the card.

as others have said, it should work in SL10.68, did you enable the UA plugs (as 64bit)via the DP plugin manager?
anytime I've had a problem with UAD, a quick phone call to their awesome support staff has always gotten the problem solved, they are very good.
I'd call them up.

they are working, just not with old projects. i can't bring up an old mix in 64-bit.

This is a shot in the dark - can you open the old projects in DP 8 in 32-bit mode?
If you can, there may be a tiny possibility that since those old projects used
an older version of UAD (pre-64 bit), in 64-bit mode you are looking to instantiate versions of the UAD plugs which didn't exist at the time you
created the old projects.
I know, it sounds whack, but it may explain things.

that makes some sense but it seems a bit odd. i'd think that you'd want to instantiate the plugins that are on disk since that's what gets loaded at startup time. and DP always does a plugin check when it starts up and finds new plugins. i think there's something else in the project that is pointing to the wrong thing. it's a bug for sure but i won't hold my breath for them to fix it.
anyway, i'm sure the projects will open up just find in 32 bit mode. hopefully i won't have to go back to them very often or at all. <fingers crossed>
