Rollin' into April and still no 8.1...grrrrrrr

I just opened up an older session which has around 42 tracks in it from 2011. It was originally done in DP 7.x. I have the same Mac, same RAM, session is on the same hard drive with the same plugins...meaning that DP 7.x had no issues with this mix. When I first opened the session DP 8.01 was very sluggish. So, I removed all the inserted plugins and the one instrument to start a clean, fresh remix. Even after removing every thing from the session other than the audio tracks the 'Memory' meter in DP 8.01 is sitting at more than half way and everything is very sluggish. I then added 3 UAD plugins to the bass track and the memory is now almost 3/4 to maxing out and it's even more sluggish.
What the flip!
You know, like most DP users, I feel DP is a great DAW but I have to say dealing with this buggy 8.01 version is starting to get on my last nerve! The update from 7.x to 8.0 was WAY over due and considering that DP 8 came out, in what last October, and now it's 6 months later and we're still waiting on a cleaned up version of the software --
I kinda feel like doing this
What is MOTU doing? They do realize that their long time Mac base is getting a bit annoyed right?
Ok...I feel a bit better after venting, although it's obviously not going to help this mix out.

No need for hysteria on either front, the next version of DP whether it's for Mac or Windows will be released when it's ready.
I'd be more disappointed if MOTU rushed either the update or the Windows release before they felt they were ready because of pubic pressure.
Yes we all want to see DP8 improved and released as a cross platform DAW but I'm sure if MOTU hasn't done so,they have their reasons.
I have faith, when it's ready it will be released.

As much as I'm eager for the update, 8.01 is still a great improvement and 64 bit solves many issues for me. I still wNt my 8.1 but can wait for the update as long as workarounds exist.

It was kinda funny though.
This place is so civil. I appreciate it for sure. I like my anarchic chaotic forums, but this place is like a lounge, the idea is to chill and discuss music and audi tools.
I'm a non power user. I run only a handful of plug ins and what with the new to me Mac Pro I Run into little problems. Mostly I want my wiper back in the TO.

Glad you think so. I for one think it's stupid. This is a "lounge" right... so I'll say it's stupid and have another sip of my beer.

Well, I think the delay of DP8 Windows is more of a serious image damage for MOTU as MOTU is not showing their business from it´s best side right now.
I mean by now, more than 1 year after the DP8 Windows anouncement, those DP8 Windows interested buyers might have jumped of the ship. It´s really not any good advertisement for MOTU tech, developement nor support.
I believe they are doing their best struggeling putting things together.
Donnow. I´m sad having to realize this. I love MOTU and DP. I don´t wanna complain, but I´m just being realistic.
Hope MOTU comes back soon and will be able to repair their client confidence by putting DP8 MAC and PC where it should be and be more interactive with us users. MOTU made one big misstake.. they annonced and promised us something before they could deliver.. I believe they got a bit carried away themselves.

It happens. I guess because I've seen it so often, I personally don't think of it as much of an issue. I know people get bent out of shape about this, but software development has to be rough.
They are working on it. One thing Windows users will want to keep in mind is it seems they really care if it works on all current PCs, something a lot of PC developers don't seem to care about. <-- Think about it, the main reason for the long delay isn't probably because they didn't have it working on the first round of beta testers, but because when it got to a larger group of people bugs emerged.

Good news is, once it's released - if it kicks donkey all will be forgotten. Happened to Slate, who got into a lot of hot water with VCC. Now that their plugs are all working (and sounding absolutely mind-blowing) they can do no wrong...

Here in lies an issue. DP was Mac only and now it's development resources have more than likely been cut in half because of Windows development. So we have 2+ years for a Mac update from 7.x to 8.x which gave us 64 bit, new 'themes', punch guard and and hand full of plugins...hardly ground shattering compared to most DAW's. Yet like most of us we ponied up the dough for DP8. And now 6 months or so has passed for them to iron out the bugs in a marginal update to 8.01. Again, as noted, this sluggishness is turning sour for their long devoted Mac base. Bugs and work arounds are fine and dandy IF you can still get the work done. However, at least in my case, I cannot mix the session from 2011 previously done in DP7 without issue because DP 8 is so jacked up. I speak for myself when I say this but MOTU better get their act together very soon or sadly I will have to jump ship to something that is more functional....so I can work properly.
