Older MOTU parallel/series units - to PC with serial?

Hi, I've searched for HOURS on this....
I can connect an older MOTU parallel/serial unit to my older PC with a parallel port on the back plate ok via the MOTU's 25 pin parallel port & is working ok...
But, my newer PC has only has a 9 pin serial header out directly on the mobo. At 1st I thought/assumed the serial port on older MOTU's was only for MAC's...but after days of researching I read an article with just a 'slight mention' saying that older MOTU's can be connected to a PC via it's parallel 'OR' it's serial connection...? But so far I have NOT been able to find any other mention on the entire internet. Does anyone know if this is true? I'd really like to use it on my newer PC.
Oh, using Win XP still. Mobo on my newer machine (old by todays standards) is a ASUS P5KC with a 9 pin serial pinout connector on it. Yes, I did read I may yse a PCI to parallel card, but running out of PCI slots for my old Aardvark cards.
