How to crossfade vel using mod wheel?

Hi.
I've got 3 trombone patches. soft, medium and loud. I'd like to use the modulation wheel to cross-fade between them but I can't find the way to do it. I got them all set to the same MIDI channel. Where do I go from here?
I've got Mach5 3.
Any help is appreciated.

That would be a function of the patch and VI, not of the DAW. Either reprogram the patch or find out what controller controls that (if any in fact, do) in the patch and remap the controller.

ps - You might have to create a custom console in DP to remap a MIDI controller.

I think Neal is asking how to script that inside M5...
Looks like the answer involves programming the right layer rules. There's the specific option to assign layers to a range of a MIDI controller. See the MachFive3 Manual pages 132-134 and take it from there. Good luck!

Yes. I'm talking about programing Mach5.
In fact, my original multi patch for the Mach5 2 was done that way. But when I load it into version 3 it lost all that.
And I created that original performance/multi so many years ago I haven't a clue how I did it. But I think you're right, it's got something to do with rules. I'll have to just take some time to learn the "rules"..
Thanks.

There are multiple way to do this.
The best version imho would be to put your 3 presets in a single preset.
I suppose you have 3 presets with 1 layer each
1) Double click the first part and load the first preset with the option "Load as layers" toggled
2) Double click the first part and load the 2nd preset with the option "Load as layers" toggled
3) Double click the first part and load the 3rd preset with the option "Load as layers" toggled.
4) Move to List View
You should now have 3 layers
5) Adjust all keygroups so they fill the whole velocity range(layer are totally overlapped). It's maybe already the case.
6)Select all layers, then right click the keygroup volume knob and select: Add modulation > Modulation wheel
7) Now Select the low velocity layer and click the "edit modulation mapper" of the second line of volume modulation matrix. (the one that you have just added with mod wheel as mod source)
8) Choose Add, change the range to 0 .. 1 then right click the mapper view and select Presets > Crossfades > 3 crossfades > Fade #1
Repeat 7) and 8) for mid and high velocity layers except that you will choose respectively Fade #2 and Fade #3.
Good luck !

I think I got it right up to the point where you say "then right click the mapper view and select Presets > Crossfades > 3 crossfades > Fade #1
Can't figure that one out. Looked through the manual and still don't have a handle on it.
Is the mapper view the same as the mapper edit button? If so, it doesn't right click.

You first click the mapper edit button, the mapper window opens, click add, then right click where bars are drawn and follow my first post from here.
Hope this clarify things
