G5 resets its date and clock to last century...

Hello.

For the past weeks, I've had to reset the date and time every time I power my G5 on.
I suspect it's due to some kind of battery in the motherboard, or something.

Could that be the problem? If so, would this be the solution?

I just want to make sure I buy the right thing and this problem is not caused by something else.

Thanks!

Yes, that is exactly the problem. This is the correct battery or its equivalent.

Replace the one that looks like this (same for all towers going back to the Beige G3). I don't know if the Mac Pro uses it also.

Be sure you're grounded in more ways than one.

Thank you, Mike! :D

I'll order the battery now (and a few other things too).

No. Pop out the old one and put in the new. It's a little tricky on some - especially iMacs and eMacs - but you'll see how to do it.

Take care to observe the polarity and put the new one in the way the old one came out.

Some older towers have a black plastic cover that likes to break. I've never seen a G5 that did. It is not necessary.

The standard precaution when working on any computer. Also disconnect the power cable before opening it up.
