Hello all -
828 no longer appears in System Preferences>Sound. It is also now grayed out in Audio MIDI Setup. In Systems Profiler>Hardware>Firewire on my hard drive, I only find "unknown device". I have attempted to connect via USB rather than Firewire using a cable I know to work, with the same result. MOTU Firmware Updater tells me "The device is not detected", and MOTU Audio Setup says "No devices found". I have also restarted both the computer and the 828 numerous times. Until now it has been working flawlessly for a couple of years. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I am having a similar problem w/ Clockworks not finding my MTP AV, even though my Ma Pro 3.1 sees the MTP AV through system profiler. Just spent an hour w/ MOTU tech support. The end result: Sending the MTP AV to MOTU for service or replacement - 3 weeks. 
Like you said... first problem like this I have ever encountered since having the box for many years.
Thank God I just got a USB Keystation controller
or I would be SOL...
