DP8 with snow leopard

Hi all,
As part of my annual year end tax deductible shopping spree I have upped to DP8. I'm still using DP7 and 10.6.8 right now, so, mindful of the fact that everyone's set up is different, I'm wondering what the consensus is about DP8 in general, with Snow Leopard, and with Lion/Mountain Lion since I'll get there eventually.
My system is running fine right now (apart from a recent episode with bad RAM!) and I'd hate to think that that might change.
I did a search but there were thousands of posts to wade through. If there's a thread you can point me to, that would certainly work to.
Thanks in advance,
Gavin

Up until yesterday I've been using DP8 in SL10.68 & it's been working well.
But I started to not like being a few OS's behind what's current as I knew sooner or later some software I use would require a later OS.
Well that day came yesterday when UA announced 10.68 would not be a supported OS for UA 64bit.
It will work from what I've learned but for me if major companies I trust and depend on are not officially supporting the OS I'm using it's IMO time to move forward.
So yesterday I updated my MacPro to 10.82 and so far it looks pretty cool, everything I've tried and checked is working & I like some of the new features I'm discovering.
You should be able to get started with 10.68 but as far as I'm concerned the writing is on the wall, sooner rather than later some software you use you'll need to update.
I'm glad I got this done,I like operating in a current OS and ML looks better than I expected.
Either way enjoy DP8.01!

I was checking it out a bit today,I don't use my Mac for porn, what's the reason for all of this excitement you have regarding full screen?

Some people are so easily humored...

Aside from the above?

Full screen (which even DP8 does) is like Spaces. In fact, it
is Spaces, but made easy. Along with Quickeys, I can use 100% of my screen real estate, not have to see other apps running in the background
including the Finder, and switch in a flash to other apps as needed. Along with intelligent use of the Consolidated Window, I've found that has made the Mac much more efficient for me. Aside from that, the dock doesn't pop up immediately either, so I get true 100% screen use.

Go to the App Store and locate the Mountain Lion update. But before you
take the plunge, read the customer reviews (posted by Apple on the App Store
itelf). You'll see the numerous complaints from users who upgraded their older Macs to Mountain Lion. Of particular note is the many complaints from
people who were using Microsoft Office 2008 or older Adobe products and
found that updating to ML rendered these apps unworkable, and they were forced to buy new versions of Microsoft and Adobe products (not cheap).
Here's the thing - older Macs are probably better off with Snow Leopard than
Mountain Lion, period. At least that's where I am. Snow Leopard is solid
and trouble-free on my MacBook and my 2010 Quadcore Mac Pro. If I make the
jump to ML, I will lose all my old Adobe and Microsoft apps, which I can't
afford to be without and cannot afford to upgrade. Not to mention, there are
a number of "features" in ML that I still cannot fathom - the way scrolling works, the hidden User Library, the replacement of "Save As" with "Duplicate", the "restore to Last state" thing. Full screen mode? I'd never
want to use it...I like knowing what else is going on on my desktop.
UAD 64-bit is not enough of a reason to swap out a reliable OS for an unknown one, in my view. Think long and hard about such a major move, and consider strongly what you may lose...it's probably more than immediately comes
to mind.

David is correct. I was sure to update all my non ML apps, like Adobe Suite, MS Office, Quicken (patch update) and a few more before or soon after updating my OS. BTW, Quickeys is not officially ML compatible but it works just fine on my system.
Also, keep in mind that at the Apple site, as in our site, people don't generally post to say how great it is. They come to say what their problems are. If it's working great (as it is on my system) I suspect there are even more people who don't post, but again, if you depend on a particular app fairly often be sure it is ML ready.
The world of computing is obviously changing. DP8 doesn't work on PPC machines. That would have be devastating for me had I not bought the machine I did - when I did. I have not seen much on MNation about that, but it would seem that left a few folks out in the cold. Kind of the same thing, IMO.
Just keep swimming...

OK, I will have to look at it more, like most things,it went right over my head!
So you use this instead of spaces? I thought maybe full screen mode was intended to be taken advantage of with spaces.
The confusion continues......

I never took to Spaces but I LOVE full screen. Go figure. It's like hating coffee but loving cappuccino. Or maybe like hating Lion but then loving ML..... GUILTY!

I hate to say this, but I'm not getting the solid performance with DP 8.01 and SL (10.68). It sputs and stutters using just four single instances of Native-Instrument's Kontakt 4 (latest version). I don't know if it's DP 8.01 or Kontakt 4.

This, of course, is not true with DP 7 which was (is) real solid for me.
Now, when I use Plogue's Bidule, load it up using the exact same set up (with the same instruments using Kontakt 4) and ReWire it back to DP 8.01, all is well. Because of this, I'm thinking that the problem either lies between DP 8.01 & Kontakt 4 or even maybe that my computer is not "strong & new" enough to properly handle DP 8.01. But as evidenced in my signature below, my Early-2009 MacPro 8-core computer with 32 GBs of RAM is no weak machine.
I'm trying to problem-solve this out. I've adjusted all kinds of settings within DP 8.01 as one would normally do and I still get the same sputtering. At this point, I'm waiting for the next DP 8 update. I'm also thinking about farming out my modest fleet of instrumental libraries (especially the ones powered by Kontakt) and use DP 8 with VSL's Ensemble Pro. Actually, my plan is to buy a MacMini i7, load it up with RAM (up to 16 GBs) and use it to house DP 8 and use my MacPro as the "slave computer".
At this point, I need to say that I can load up a 50+ orchestral instrument templet using libraries powered by Aria (GPO, JABB) and Kontakt 4 (Kirk Hunter Strings, Brass and Orchestra) within my "
other audio/sequencing program" (noted in signature line) with no issues at all. My current set-up with the "
other audio/sequencing program" is solid and reliable (like DP 7). Compared to most of you, this 50+ templet is nothing. So, for whatever reason, I'm thinking that the issue with DP 8.01 lies between it and my MacPro.
To be clear, I really love Digital Performer. I especially enjoy using it for my modest film-scoring stuff (nothing professional, of course). (Before I became a nurse, I studied film composition 30+ years ago and even hold a BM degree with that major!

I just like saying that I hold a "BM Degree"!

A little nursing humor, there.

) Using Digital Performer brings me back to the day when I used streamers and punches on the actual film. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, "I ain't feeling the love yet from DP 8.01 back to me".
These are the questions that need answering to help me problem-solve this issue for me: For those who do have stable systems, are you loading up your libraries into DP 8.01 or are you using a slave computer?? Is Kontakt 5 better to use with DP 8.01 than Kontakt 4?? Should I upgrade my Operating System to Mountain Lion??? Are there known issues between the latest version of Kontakt 4 and DP 8.01?? I use two monitors from the MacPro video-card (noted in my signature). Could THIS be an issue?? For those who successfully sequence using DP 8.01 loaded up with many, many VIs, what have you done to make your system reliable???

Just remember that there is a whole bowl of difference between saying you have a BM degree vs. saying you have a degree in BM. (I have one of the former, along with an MM)
One question for you: are you running DP 8.01 in 32 or 64 bit mode?
