I feel disinclined even at that price, as I have too many recent "bargains" that I haven't had time to fully learn and integrate with my workflow yet, but figure this would be of interest to many people here, and look forward to comments after the initial buzz a few years back.

Could not have said it better.. just too much new stuff for now.. if I get mired in learning it all, I won't get any work done. BUT, will I regret?
Someone talk me into it?
Nah, I gotta go install disc 4 of my new MachFive 3.

Since it doesn't work as a plug-in, has no MIDI, and audio tracks have to be imported it into it, I don't view it as even worth the $40.

I'm finally beginning to learn late in life that if I keep getting great deals on stuff I never use, I'll be broke.

Oops, lots of caveats on this one -- and yet there was such excitement when it was first announced/released a few years back.

Now that the initial passion has cooled, it seems that the usability and compatibility issues just aren't playing well with a DP-centric workflow and the brave "new" land of 64-bit processors.
Given all of that, I think the point of entry needs to be lower still.

I'm putting a version of that in my sig line.

Maybe I'm not getting something, but am I alone in wondering how this would fit into any DAW workflow? It seems like half a DAW in of itself.
Typical "console emulation" ala Slate Virtual Console, usually consists of individual plugins to throw on every track. This is obviously completely different.
BTW: I just had an out-there thought. What if DP supported "plugin consoles", sort of the way they have plugins for surround panners. Maybe you wouldn't get the interface of an old console, but the various faders and panners would take on the qualities of a virtual console plugin, but remain upfront and not buried inside inserts. Obviously, there's no plugin format precedent for plugins that aren't inserts, so they'd have to pool with other DAW manufacturers to come up with some kind of standard first.

Well 1st off with all of the limitations the Harrison brings to the table,I think it would be more trouble than it's worth even if it was free at this point.
I think what people likes about it initially was the eq and the general sound but considering all of the hoops a user would have to jump through to use this as is it looks like a total cluster f**k to me!
I might be wrong on this as I think the idea behind this is to use the Harrison as a desk with imported audio and you'd be replacing DP's sound engine entirely.
I don't think MOTU or any company would want to have their app hijacked this way.
VCC just emulates mixing board cross talk,if the Harrison had full MIDI implementation and was 64bit and could be used as a virtual mixer plugin with all of its board and eq characteristics we'd be having a different discussion.
I expect a company like UA to go this way eventually but I'd imagine to do this correctly they'd need a 16 or 32 core card, with a physical controller, damn that would be cool!

I'd want a hybrid Neve/API desk with 48 inputs to start!!!!

I too was lured in by the almost impossibly good deal on this. But then I realized, I really don't need another DAW learning curve. Rather spend the time perfecting what I already have. Between DP7 (very soon

and Logic 9, I think I pretty much have it all covered.
Nice deal for those that take advantage of it, though!
Happy New Year, 'nationers

Saw it, realized that Audacity was probably better by now (not certain - haven't played with that in years).
Couldn't find a use for it even if free.
At least with GarageBand, there's a huge installed base and an upgrade path to a DAW with its own huge installed base.
OTOH, the sound of the chirping crickets on the Harrison Mix Bus user support boards might be broken up with the occasional "anybody here?" - just like the GVOX boards these days.

How exactly would that work? I mean, I guess you could construct a plugin that posts a huge set of routing buses (I know VIs can do that, I'm guessing effects can as well) and manually route them into an insert effect on a master aux, effectively replacing DPs mixer. But MAN would that be a pain in the butt! You would have to still have each normal mixer channel, and then send it to the mixer plugin after the fact. Man, there are so many problems with that, my head is about to explode.

lol obviously it's not reality but the concept is a nice fantasy, the technology that would be required is crazy.
I think the only way an idea like this could be implemented realistically is if MOTU or another developer developed Mixer skins and audio engine flavors for their own DAW.
Imagine if MOTU had this like they have Themes now,an emulated Neve or Trident mixing board with built in eq's to match.
Again the technology and processing required is not reality but the idea is kind of interesting in a techno-porn kind of way.
