digital noise permeates armed track motu 896 w logic9

While playing an instrument through an armed track in logic I get a digital distortion that creeps in at random. Sometimes its just there at start up and initial arming. It ruins the take and usually a restart makes it go away. Until the next time. Anybody else experience this? Im using 3 motu 896hd with logic pro. thanks.
