828MK3...confused, why no ability to mix PC input?

Received an early Cjristmas present...an 828MK3 Hybrid.
Background: I'm running on a Win7, 64 bit machine with 16Gb Ram and using the newest MOTU audio drivers, firmware and CueMix updates. I have all of my MIDI equipment connected to a MOTU MidiExpressXT and the XT then connected to the 828MK3. The 828 is connected to my PC via FW.
When I run my DAW (S*nar or B!AB RB), I can assign all of the MIDI patches, volumes, modulation and other events through the DAW's just fine. However, when I use CueMix for my mix, I have no volume inputs from the VSTi's that are running on the computer. The only way to change VSTi volume is from within the DAW. Is this normal, or do I have something not hooked up right?
Also, if I highlight any of the "Monitor" buttons in CueMix, whether for my Main Out 1&2 or for any of the stereo pairs of the MIDI eqipment, there is no volume change when I increase or decrease the "Monitor Volume" dial on the upper right corner of CueMiX.
Help me out here guys, this just doesn't seem right....thanks.
