If anyone figures out a way to automate CueMix from DP, please let me know.

I use DP when I want to automate stuff. Seriously, CueMix is really a device setup utility. AudioDesk should have come with CueMix and you can automate stuff there.

Are you saying use Audiodesk over cuemix or that audiodesk CAN automate cuemix.
I've been trying to automate cuemix for IEM purposes. I've had some luck using reaper in mackie mode to control cuemix. It's not 100% unfortunately.
Now there's a huge thread where several have got a BCF2000 to control ALL volumes/pans on each channel in cuemix. My train of thought is to automate that which then sends info to cuemix.
Another option to is to send OSC from a DAW but I could get that to work.... I didn't really give it much thought to honest.

IF people found a way to automate Cuemix externally and that covers their butts, then go for it, but it limited as far as plugs go. Audiodesk basically is the audio miser from DP (with some limitations, of course) and will give you more control. Again, Cuemix, IMO, is to setup up the interface on a basic level, not to control a mix, per se. At least that's how i see it.

No doubt. I think most who want to automate are either using it for FOH or IEM mixes and don't want to rely on a computer for routing/basic mixing in fear of crashes or what not. Not that the interface is 100% failproof but it eases the conscience.
Otherwise I'm sure all use what their DAW offers.

Thanks for all the input, and sorry the holidays have kept me away for awhile.
My reason for the original query is I am setting up a portable show for two singers who will perform to pre-recorded tracks.
I plan to use a laptop with DP to playback stereo audio + a MIDI track for DMX lighting commands.
I'll need to automate reverb size and sends on an aux buss while also using an AU plugin to automate DMX lighting (Enttec DMXIS - great product).
In my attempt to conserve space (very portable pa rig) and ease the cpu load I thought a mk3 interface with its built in FX, EQ and compression would act as a mixer to give me FOH outputs with a couple of monitor mixes.
But since I need to automate the whole thing (there will be no sound tech at the shows) it seems the mk3 DSP can't be directly accessed by DP.
Running DP with plugins to handle eq, compression and FX introduces an unacceptable and annoyingly noticeable latency that makes the singers crazy. And the smallest mixer that can be MIDI-automated is the Presonus 16.0.2, which makes the rig a bit less portable. Not huge, I know, but I was excited to learn the mk3 interfaces had this live mixer capability, and hoped for this to be a cool, elegant solution.
How silly is it that MOTU doesn't allow its flagship program to directly access the DSP features on their newest line of interfaces? Oh well...
