both usb and firewire at the same time

hello
i have a ultralight mkIII mainly connected to the desktop computer by firewire
and sometimes i plug it to a laptop for performance.
the laptop only got usb connection. so , no problems the ultralight is working fine with the usb and im happy ,
my question is:
can i plug both computers at the same time one to usb and one to the firewire
and switch between them with the front panel selector ?
well i know its kinda stpid question but still.
i dont want them to work at the same time but just have it connected and switch between usb/firewire ...
