Staying with 10.6.8?

Interesting Article
I have just been getting my feet wet with Mountain Lion on my non-DAW machine. I'm used to OS upgrades, but 10.7 and 10.8 really seem to be inconsequential to me, and a lot of the changes seem to be changes for change sake. A lot of the rather contentious comments reflect my feelings and I'm left thinking that 10.6 is a classic that I just can't leave.

At some point, Apple will leave 10.6 behind. 10.7.x was transitional but will be around for those pre-2009 Macs that can't run 10.8 (or whatever will then be current). Upgrading will no longer be an issue.
As someone whose Mac experience dates back to System/Finder 4, I have no doubt that the above will become true. Until then, many will not have a reason to move beyond 10.6.8 - good for them.
10.4 and 10.5 still allow many to do good work but, even though DP 7 works and DP 5 rocks on those machines, other applications are leaving them behind. The first time I used GoogleChrome with my day job, my productivity increased 20% - 75% depending on the task. Chrome doesn't run on a PPC.
I consider 10.8.2 essential to my work and think, 'It's about damned time.' Fortunately, 10.8.2 is the version where Apple finally fixed enough of what they broke in 10.7 and everything works pretty well - except PPC legacy applications, of course, which will never work again. DP 7.24 and 8 work very well for me. I have no current problems that I can blame on the OS.
Apple broke the Mail client in 10.6 and never fixed it till 10.7.4. For that reason alone, I would never go back. Word 2008 runs so much better in OS 10.8 that I stopped using 2011 - no idea why it got so much faster but I prefer the 2008 interface and am not moving forward till I have to. Same for Photoshop Elements 6 which I prefer to Elements 9 or Photoshop CS 5.5.
For years, I updated my hardware when MacInTax would no longer run on my system. I am one of those who upgrades when I absolutely have to. My day gig and handicap have forced me to upgrade to this point. I am hoping that I can stand in place for a while. We'll see...
