MIDI Express XT communication problems

Hello,
I recently purchased a used MIDI Express XT USB to use with my Windows 7-64 and Cubase.
I'm trying to transmit MIDI data from my moog little phatty tribute to Cubase.
I have installed the most recent driver that MOTU offers for Windows 7-64, and my computer recognizes the MOTU, and Cubase does as well.
When I play the little phatty I get the lights on the input of the MIDI express as well as the USB out.
At first I thought it was a Cubase problem, thinking that I didn't have everything set up properly, but since then I installed MIDI-OX, and it doesn't recognize MIDI data coming from the little phatty either.
Any ideas as to why my computer recognizes the MIDI express, but not the MIDI data?
Thanks,
Brendan
