New section for windows users?

Post by miketeachesclass »

Hi Everybody,

I've lurked a bit, but this is my first post.

I upgraded to DP8 after not having used DP since version 4. I've been off in Pro Tools land, and finally got dissatisfied enough to delve back into DP land, after the announcement of Windows compatibility.

Out of curiosity, once the Windows release is available, will there be a separate section of the board for Windows-type troubleshooting? I'm sure the issues that platform will present are different than the OSX issues. Just wondering.

Thanks,
Mike :)

We've kicked the tires on this and the current view is wait and watch. They should be similar enough that a new section might not be necessary but if it is, it will be created and knowledgable moderators selected if appropriate. At least that's my understanding. It's all up to the board owner James Steele.

Fair enough.

I have to say, I'm pretty excited to get back to DP. I've been reading through the manual that came with the OSX version, and I'd forgotten some of the things that DP does well that Pro Tools is lacking in.

Here's to hoping the Win version is solid!

Here's hoping that both platforms' versions are solid, and that they are so good we can't tell the difference.

For what it's worth, cubase.net used to have separate Mac and Windows forums. A year or so ago, they simply lumped both into one forum per product. Overall result? Surprisingly civil and respectful given the potential for platform wars. Some will ID their platform in the thread title to help readers filter through for relevant content.

The other thing SB did was to require entering the elicenser number when forming a log-in in order to have posting privileges. Otherwise, it's a read only situation except for the general audience welcome section.

Not sure how that would work here.

I can say with some confidence that James will be as tolerant of platform bashing as he is with blatant political and religious comments.

Whether or not we need separate sections will not be known until we see the PC version and any major differences that are platform specific. My guess is we can keep things the way they are for the foreseeable future.

There was never a question regarding keeping the peace, but rather thinking out loud about requiring entering the reg # when establishing a log in. :unicorn:
