DP8 Crashes while soundbite editing

Post by Guitar Gaz »

I am experiencing frequent crashing while editing soundbites - moving them around mainly. It has happened twice now and I have lost some changes. Plus I have experienced the loss of keyboard functions - things like copying and pasting - which come and go intermittently. DP8 is exhibiting buggy behaviour in the first real session of me using it for editing and changing things on my songs. Previously I was doing cosmetic and low level testing. Now that I am getting some work done I have crashed twice when doing routine soundbite editing.

I am seriously tempted now to go back to DP7.24. Never thought I would say that.

Are you actually running in 64 bit? I am rewiring Reason to DP8 both in 64 bit. I have experienced crashes while edge editing soundbites. I will have to do some more testing but I have been a bit disappointed today. If there is something I am doing that's different from everyone else who are not getting problems, I would like to know.

I am running DP in 32 bit as below. Mac in 64 bit, however.

Gaz, I'm running DP8 in 64-bit mode under OS X 10.7.5. Lots of high-speed editing of VO, SFX and music tracks the past three days... sliding them around, trimming, scissors, edge editing, adding fades. Naked tracks or with Waves plugs in place. Not a glitch or hiccup.

I'm not using ReWire. Is there anything else that I can confirm or deny?

No crashing here, yet. I've done several days of "real work," and I haven't had a problem.

Thanks - will continue testing. My RAM seems okay (I have tested the 12GB of RAM). I have Lion which I am told boots the mac into 64 bit automatically. So I don't think there is any incompatibility as such. I will try without Reason rewired too. Thanks for your input

Still crashing - in 64 bit and 32 bit - particularly when soundbite editing. This has always been using Rewire with Reason. Maybe its a Rewire issue. Anyone else using Reason?

I have nearly had enough and am about to decamp back to 7.24 as currently DP8 is unworkable. Anything that I might be missing here?

You might try reinstalling DP8...

I re-installed DP8. I tried it with a DP8 scheme in case the custom ones upset it somehow. I tried it first in 64 bit with Reason rewired also in 64 bit. My Pod Farm 2.5 and Superior Drummer plug ins are all 64 bit and up to date. After a few minutes - it crashed again. I then tried it in 32 bit mode rewired to 32 bit Reason. Same - any editing induces a crash. My Ram seems to be okay. So I don't think its that - it behaves the same anyway in 32 bit.

So perhaps its to do with Rewire? Rewire works fine with 7.24 - never had a problem. But something to do with rewire is maybe the reason I am having problems with DP8 - other people seem to be not having my problems. Anyway - it is definitely unusable for me - I will have to contact Motu to complain or whatever one does with buggy software.

I'm using rewire just fine. Did you reinstall that? I'll check earlier messages when I can.

Apparently you don't need to install Rewire if you have Reason (6.51) as its already there. However thanks for the thought. I could test DP8 without Reason but what's the point? Reason is my main source of sounds. So guess I am stuck as I think I have tried everything - Reason and Rewire work so well with 7.24 so a bit lost for ideas.

Whether some of my older plug ins that don't load in DP8 are causing conflict I don't know e.g. Korg Legacy Wavestation. Not sure what you do with 32 bit plugins - do you have to remove them?
