Many here know me as very picky, very critical, never happy.
Well, Lets see if this lasts but, I am very impressed with DP 8 on first glance.
I had some minor weirdness such as a crash when examining AU’s that really didn't crash but said instead, said they did while continuing to examine. And 1st quit resulted in a crash, (I had no file loaded , just DP so no harm), and, of course, I am messing with getting 64 bit this’ and that’s, but I am impressed so far. Here’s why :
1) In 32 bit mode, it opens my most recent mixes just fine with no problem or altered sound. Very complicated mixes using tons of plugs.
2) DP 7 works just fine still.
3) DP 8 kept all my system routing info, plug in set ups, key commands etc, just fine.

I almost panicked because I remembered I have a very picky client tomorrow morning who is always a technical disaster vacuum. I went-“Oh man, wait, her files won;t load”...
But guess what, they do and they load in either DP 7 or 8.

Very nice MOTU.
Hopefully as I get all the mercury waves 9 stuff installed my old waves 8 files will still work. But Nice job. well done. lets see how this progresses, it really sucks to be in full work mode while going through this upgrade, (I never get a break from productions so it just isn;t gonna happen),so this has been very impressive in that it hasn’t been a disaster!

Well, I've been so impressed that last night I passed the point of no return and installed Waves 9, which effectively kills my ability to go back to DP7 (I know that's not true, and you can still use Waves 9 in DP7, but you have to baby it and be careful, from what I've heard). All of my plugins authorized without a hitch, and the program has been responsive and smooth, noticeably more-so than DP7. It's cleared up a number of interface issues that, honestly, I would be hard-pressed to go back to DP7 now that they're working. I may even hold a ceremony and burn my DP7 bible/manual.

So far, I've experienced only ONE drawback, AT ALL, and I'm not even completely sure it's correct: Command-W no longer closes plugin windows. I swear that in DP7, pressing Command-W closed the active window, even if it was a plugin. I wonder if there's some other way of closing the window... maybe the shortcut was remapped?

Also, I experienced a VERY slight bug while renaming tracks. A few characters into the name, I think I hit a non-standard character key (like ~) and the cursor disappeared, unable for me to continue editing the name, I had to click off of it, and select it again to correct the name. So minor, it's barely worth mentioning. The fact that that's the ONLY bug I've noticed in this point-0 version is EXTREMELY impressive.

Well, I remember something has been wrote here about weird DP instability when updating. Instability vanishing after a few hours or days. Maybe something about building caches? Or these little geniuses crawling and hard-working day and night inside my Mac?

Just tried it in DP7. You are correct.

Our protocol here, which was done with DP8 install too, is too use OnyX to run all the daily weekly monthly scripts and dump caches. Same type of thing mac does on its own at 2am, but we force it then we sorta no we are going to be about as clean as we can get.

I did thorough system cleaning, cache, prefs, directories etc, and backed up whole sys drive before installing

I agree w/TDH. A clean machine brings more joy to your life.

It will tell you more about the Command-W problem, which is the tip of a larger iceberg.

I suspect the cursor problem you mention is related somehow to it.

If you select a trk name in Sequence Editor or TO window and try to rename trks, our normal thing would be to select the name, then hit right arrow key and use delete backspace key to get rid of 'copy' or anything needing changed. Try it. INstead of getting to end of selection with the right or left arrow key, DP8 will erase the entire name of trk.

wow. received DP8 in 4 days here in New Zealand, 2 days of work flawlessly with Ableton 64bit beta rewired. not a single crash yet. which i was having ALL THE TIME in DP6. Stoked! All 3rd party 32bit plugs opened straight away in 64bit with jBridgeM.
It generally feels like a big upgrade from DP6. Thumbs up, the long wait seems to have been worth it.

I get the feeling I'll be on DP 8.* for a looong time.

DP6 was not the best version it had lots of issues. 7.4 is very stable but the first version 7 had some issues. I think 8 has less than 7 did when it came out (for me). So going from 6 to 8 is like a big improvement.
