Toast 11.1 Upgrade hangs - Here's the solution

There is an upgrade to Toast, 11.1. It has many fixes, a few new features etc. which I won't bother you with.

Many users are having problems running the updater, however. It hangs and won't let you finish. Here's the solution:

Locate the "com.roxio.toast.plist" file in User Library/Preferences and delete or move to the Trash. Now the updater will work.

If you are like I, you will have run the following commnd in Terminal after updating to 10.7 or 10.8 and can just go to your User library anytime (not an issue in 10.6.x): chflags nohidden ~/Library

Otherwise, you must do the following:

1. Quit the Toast.app Setup Assistant
2. In Finder, click the pulldown GO menu and click GO TO FOLDER (or press SHIFT+COMMAND+G)
3. In the Go To Folder window, type (or paste) in: ~/Library/Preferences
4. Locate the "com.roxio.toast.plist" file and delete or move to the Trash
5. Close the window and launch Toast Titanium again
6. Proceed through the Setup Assistant as normal

No doubt, Roxio will fix this or at least post the solution in Support but, till they do...

Thanks, Mike. On SL you have to kill the plist as well. It still "rejected" the updated reg. info but is working OK. Much obliged.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Yes, you have to kill the .plist no matter the OS.

In 10.6 and prior, the User Library is not hidden by default. In 10.7/10.8 it is. Running the Terminal command once keeps it visible always, just as in previous OS. If you do not keep it visible, then the "official" way has to be followed in Leo and ML.

Either way it works. But Toast has yet to burn a useable DVD that doesn't sputter.

I remember that was why you upgraded. I am not having that problem.

What blanks are you using?

I've tried many brands. This is a problem on the G5 and now on the 8-core. iDVD is what I'm using but do wish a better alternative was available. FCP but I don't need the whistles and bells and FCE is still my editor of choice.

I don't do so much video that it's a problem. Back to my analog piano.
