Is anyone using a MB Air for recording w/ their MOTU 828mk3? I see that there's an adapter available that will provide the necessary FW conversion, but I'm hoping someone has some experience in doing so. I'd hate to purchase the MB Air and find the adapter causes issues.

For those who are using MB Air, what configuration do you have and is it sufficient?

The article I read said it would be out in July, apparently that did not yet occur...

So, I refine my question until then - anyone using MB Air w/ MOTU Hybrid?
Just want to make sure I'm going down a path that won't lead to disappointed.

I think you maybe better off saving up some more money and buying a MB Pro. You'll be able to do a lot more DAW wise. Just not sure the Air is up to the task. Just my 2 cents

It's not a matter of price, it's a matter of convenience. I'd been weighing my options between some of the ultrabooks because I have a nice desktop, I'd much prefer a quiet and light notebook for my travel and recording.

I guess I will consider a 13" Pro, since it still has FireWire. It's just bulkier for the same general product. Only $200 more though.

Sidebar: It's highly irritating that companies are dropping FireWire now, given my investment in the MOTU just a couple of years ago.

I am with you on that! I use a MOTU 828mk3 on my 15" MBP via Firewire. Really hope they never eliminate the FW port on future MacBooks, because it's an expensive proposition to have to upgrade the interface as well. Not sure if the new retina display MacBook's have the FW port anymore. Maybe someone else could answer that, but they are lighter and thinner than the 2011 model I have.

When I was looking at laptops, I checked out the Air. There was an article in Macworld where the author ran Logic Pro with a high track count, plugins and some of the built in Logic synths. It ran very well apparently, but that was Logic. I think their included synths use less resources. Still didn't sway me, so I went with the MBP.
