It's nice that NI does these 50%-off sales at least once a year.

I was thinking of updating my Kontakt. But when I went on, I couldn't get the half-price for the upgrade to show up in the cart. Is there a coupon code or something?

Unfortunately from my understanding this sale does not include upgrades.
I think from NI's perspective they are already giving people deals with upgrade prices but who knows maybe they will have an upgrade sale in August or September.

Ah. Thanks.

I think every time I've updated, it's been during an 50%-off sale. I'll just wait until it is on sale.

It is Kontack V however. I just heard the Holy Grail of virtual pianos, those thinking of buying Alicia's Keys.

http://www.artvista.net/Virtual_Grand_Piano.html powered by Kontakt. Ck out Scott Greer's 'Safe At The Hideout' track.

Or do you mean no upgrade voucher in combination with NI's sale price?

Thankfully, there is no Holy Grail anymore, there are so many good pianos out there, everyone can have a different one! Yea! Let's not all sound the same!

I have Kontakt 4 and would like to upgrade to v5, but that shows up in the cart as $119 (full price). So the 50% off sale only applies to full purchases, not updates-- unless I have that wrong. But I couldn't figure it out.

Hey, what's the official DP-7.24/8 word on Kontakt 5? Why would we upgrade from 4.2? Knowing NI won't answer their telephones for another 2 weeks.

Or is it just PTs 10 and Kontakt 5 that don't get along?

In short. Why up from Kontakt 4.2? If we stay with 4.2, but go 64 bit, DP-8, better than to instantiate a new app such as Ivory or Mach V, will the memory load balance among the total ram for all apps, even though Kontakt may be running in 32 bit and limited to under 4 gigs?

K5 has better filters and some improved algorithms(time stretching)
K5 has had a few issues but it really sounds better to my drum damaged ears ;-)

K4 is very good but I prefer K5

You can't run a 32bit plug inside a 64bit app. You can use a wrapper like the bridge in Logic, but even if DP8 will have such a bridge/wrapper, it's a duct-tape solution at best (and short-lived, I would guess.)

So if Kontakt 4 is 32bit (I don't remember if it is, but I think so...?), there's your reason to upgrade right there.

Also, some of the newer libraries don't run in Kontakt 4 since they use features introduced in K5.

At least over here, Kontakt 5 purrs like a pussycat in DP7.24.

So jump in, the water is lovely! :D :D :D

Actually K4 is 64 bit.

I have Komplete (6?) and I been thinking of whether or not to upgrade that, or just go with upgrading to K5. Last time I upgraded Komplete, it went to half off 2 weeks later. They would not do anything for me. So I'm kind of waiting for it to hit rock bottom, so to speak.

Maschine is also on heavy discount until end of August(?). Maybe an update is on its way. It makes for a nice controller for DP, VI's, Kontakt, aside from being an interesting drum machine type interface and being the hardware interface for the Maschine software. Might be tempting at the $200 discount.

A while ago I ended up buying Kontak 3 then Absynth on sale then upgraded to Kontakt 4 then finally bought Komplete 8. I wish I had just bought Komplete to begin with as I find myself using so much of the stuff (including the extra sample libraries). I think its an amazing package and covers so much ground and having such a huge arsenal makes work go a bit quicker sometimes. Guitar rig and reaktor are INSANELY good IMHO. I finally stopped missing pluggo.... In the end I would have saved money not having bought the individual instruments.
