Damaged Firewire in Motu Ultralite MK I

Hi,

I accidentally connected the the firewire cable upside down to my MOTU Ultralite. Somehow it still receives power (because it lights up and everything works correctly in the unit), but it won't get recognized by my computer (it won't open the MOTU Audio Setup or be available in DP).

I already tried with my MacBook and my iMac... I also tried with different cables, the result is still the same.

My problem is I live outside the US... I live in Costa Rica and I really don't think the have authorized dealers over here.

Has anyone struggled with this before? My best guess is that I have to change the firewire port. Can I get the part online?

I know some pretty good techs down here that can take a look at it, but I'm wondering if there are special parts needed?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

You will probably have to send it back to MOTU.

According to local distributor here, that is the number one reason MOTU units fail - users somehow connecting the FW upside down ;)

And, yes, you probably need to send it to MOTU.

Not probably have to send it to MOTU - but definitely.

The data and power lines have been crossed and that in turn destroyed the actual firewire chip inside the unit.

MOTU will replace or repair the unit at their discretion. (They generally give you a unit with equal or less cosmetic damage compared to what you sent in.)

Cost is ~ $100 U.S. not including your own shipping. They may charge more to send it from Massachusetts, USA to you.
