"FXpansion's Etch is a versatile filtering effect based on DCAM circuit-modelled technology. Etch's dual filters let you switch between 4 models for all manner of fat and warm subtractive tone-shaping, with a comb filter type providing mind-bending psychedelic effects.
Additional distortion and compressor stages are provided for beefing up signals, and FXpansion's TransMod modulation system lets you animate Etch's circuits over time. Use inter-modulating LFOs, envelopes and more to drive the filter cutoffs, distortion level, compression amount or any other parameters. Etch does amazing things to all kinds of audio material and is great for subtle warming, deep tone sculpting, wild sweeps, special effects and experimental sonics."

I just listened to the audio demos and almost lost my lunch! How would one use this sort of thing in a mix without stepping on every other part in the song? Maybe the audio demos just aren't making good use of the product, but each demo sounds completely lacking in modulation, feeling, dynamics, or anything else that differentiates between a vacuum cleaner and music.

I haven't listened to the demos yet but I find a little bit of filters goes a long way , I use them judiciously (Moog & Quad Frohmage)
I use on either Synths, Synth Bass, sampled Bass primarily & edrums(occasionally)
Will give a listen at some point,my guess is they over did it to appeal to the Electronica crowd.
btw.......
what was for lunch?

OK listened & agree:the demo's are pretty bad.
I can see some uses for this potentially if I didn't already have Moog & Quad Frohmage.

These 2 plugs for me are great filter plugins and I use them as a reference point to judge any newcomers against.
In either case I'm going to wait for Cytomic's Drop to drop. I have no doubt when Drop drips into released form it will be a killer filter plug!

Now that was quick!
I wasn't wild about it when this was released last winter but now AudioMidi has it in their NoBrainer sale for $20.

I still think I'm going to pass and wait for Cytomics Drop to drop, which so far sounds incredible and I expect it will be released relatively soon.

Thought I'd update this thread in case anyone wants Etch for a great price.

ohhh, guess I have to lose my brain and to the no brain deal. That is a good deal. The demos are bad. The power of this plugin is that you can assign MIDI events to things, so that you can literally control this filter like an instrument. You can add a lot of rhythmic life to otherwise sterile material with filters and this one has a lot of cool automation features that make it musically intuitive.

Yeah at $20 I decided to assume the demos are non-representative and designed to appeal to the modern crowd. Bought it but haven't had time to use it yet; am in the midst of moving for the first time in six years.

I picked it up and there's a serious issue with DP 7.24. When you insert it on a track it kills all the audio. Bypassing the plug-in does nothing to remedy this. I contacted fxpansion support and was told that in DP I had to send a signal to it's side chain input. If I duplicate my track, assign it's output to bus1-2, set the side chain input on the track with Etch to bus1-2, it works just fine.
I've submitted a followup to their support to see if this is something that they plan on fixing. I'll post here when I get a reply.

Fxpansion has told me that it's in their bug tracking database. With any luck it will be fixed in the next update.

Barry Wood posted a work around on the motu-mac email list yesterday:
