Waves 9 NOT COMPATIBLE with DP!

Just heard from the horse's mouth (Waves):

Unfortunately, currently Digital Performer is not supported with Waves V9 and I don't have Information on if and when it will be.

I guess I'll stick with 8 and not renew my WUP.

:(

Awesome. Gotta love Waves.

I imagine they'll make 9 compatible with DP8 sometime around November.
Waves 8 should still work with DP8.

Ya know, lately their "new" plug-ins aren't anything you can't find
elsewhere. Things like Vocal Rider just automate what you can already do
yourself, the one-knob plugs are useless and the Kramer, Lord-Alge, and
Puig plugs just combine several processors into simpler GUI's. And a number
of their plugs, like the H-delay and H-comp, just plain stink.

V9 adds "new plug-ins" according to Waves' site, but notice they're really
just plug-ins they already released. GTR 3? That's probably the worst
guitar amp sim on the market.

I'm f***ing pissed. Here's my email to Waves sales:

Sir or Madam:

I've just read a cc from an email you sent to a colleague re. the non-compatibility of Waves v9 with DP. You also wrote that you "don't know when they will be compatible" and don't list DP on your list of DAWs.

I have just recently renewed my WUP ($140) precisely so I would be covered for this update. You will also find in your records that I've had my WUP active ever since I owned your plug-ins, for several years now. You also know which platform your users are running, from inquiries like this one.

Please let me know if you are planning to support DP, and by when you expect to have a working version.

Otherwise, I kindly but firmly demand a full refund for my last WUP payment. You cannot charge for a "Waves Update Plan", only to then choose not to support this user's fully current and common platform in the update *I already paid you for*.

Thank you for a prompt reply!

Kubi, check out some of the comments from the FB MOTU Group. Some group members think they will definitely support DP 8 but not DP 7. It's all conjecture at this point, isn't it?

I agree the Waves reply to me sounded rather ominous.

Before total panic sets in here in MOTU land...I'm downloading updates now and will test:

GUI
Samples rates
Automation
anything else???

I have a hunch they will work with the AU protocol. Maybe I'm missing something...

IMO part of the problem is how can Waves know when they will be compatible with DP8 when it's still not released & it's being rewritten from the ground up?
1 person I talked to at Motu tech support a couple of weeks ago implied that few of them had even seen or worked with version 8 yet & felt the release was not as imminent as we are all hoping, I do hope he was wrong...... But seriously would you rewrite all of the Waves software to V9/64bit --->DP7 32bit when you knew you'd have to do this again in a month or so?
I have lots of Waves plugs as well so I want to take advantage of Waves 64bit V9 and I'm sure they will be supported but how can Waves answer this with a date until they have a finished DP8 to work with?

They could have said, "We will be supporting DP8 at some point" rather than "We don't know if or when we will support it."

Well I guess you haven't dealt with as many Israelis as I have! lol
(I part of the tribe so don't be offended anyone) ;)
But tact and diplomacy? This is Waves we are talking about.
I'm sure this is more about the timing of the V9 release and the fact that
DP8 hasn't been released yet.
What I honestly don't understand is until DP8 64bit is actually released what benefit or purpose do we have updating to V9 in either case?

Well, for those of us who have mostly waited since V7, GUIs and a preset system that don't have the smell of 1998 all over them.

But in general your point about the "imminent" but unknown release date of DP8 is correct and likely explanatory of Waves' announcement.

So I guess this means I can relax? A little?

I installed V9 earlier today (Platinum). The new version plug-ins validate in DP, and they all seem to open and work, but I get crashes which seem to be related to plug-in window redrawing. It's far from ideal, but some work seems possible. I'll bet DP8 will be properly compatible.

I can confirm DP crash upon REMOVAL of any waves plug.

Instantiation works.

Opening old projects created with waves old v8 plugs works (gui, sound, automation, everything.)

Removal of v9 plug results in freeze and crash.

If I were waves, I wouldn't support DP 7 either knowing DP 8 will be released within a few weeks (probably.) Also, holy crap do projects with extensive waves plugs (like mine) open fast!

Agreed - not compatible with Peak either, but I'll bet it will be.

how do AU plug ins stop being compatible if they follow the AU spec to begin with?
this all seems weird. want to get this figured out while I still have the WUP coverage.
holding off on updating my waves plug ins till DP and Peak are compatible (my two most used audio programs)
