Headphones not working with the Traveler MK-3

Post by Classicalmusic »

Hello folks,
I'm beginnig to use the Traveler MK-3, but have a stupid yet serious problem with the headphone output on the front panel: I get no signal from it. I mean, once I've assigned Phones to Analog 1-2, connected two microphones to Analog inputs 1-2, turned up the Input Trim on the Analog 1/2 strip (stereo-paired) of the Input tab (page 76 of the Manual) and got two nice dancing meters when tapping on the mikes (and the Master knob is all the way up) there should be no reason for NOT hearing anything from the phones... did I forget something? :?:

In CueMix, do you have BUS 1 (where you have mic levels up and audible too) assigned to output to Analog 1-2?

If so, good.

Now in MOTU AUDIO Console, go to Traveler tab. Set Phones Assignment to Analog 1-2 also.

There are many other options to do this. I gave you the easiest so you can test.

You mean, in the Mixes tab I suppose? Yes, it has been assigned to Analog 1-2, and in the MOTU Audio Console, Phones assign was already set to Analog 1-2... nothing :banghead:

Silly question, but have you checked pushing the volume pot above the headphone socket? I don't know if it is the same on the Mk3, but on my legacy Traveler and my Ultralite this toggles between Main out and Headphone level controls....

just a thought.....

Stephen, pushing the Phones volume knob on the MK-3 has the only effect to display the Phones level without changing it... already tried
Thank you anyway...

Okay, I moved upwards a couple sliders (more details below) and now the phones are working... and I am happy because I was even fearing a fault in the output amplifier (whew!).

On the other hand, I am not so happy because I don't quite understand what I did... :? I followed the indications given by torrentg in his reply, but I had not raised both the Analog 1-2 and Bus 1 sliders in the Mixes tab.

Now, I have to admit that the internal routing structure and possibilities of the MK-3 is quite obscure to me. I already complained with MOTU about the total lack of a "flow-and-bus" diagram in the User Manual. That would shed light!

Torrentg, you said
There are many other options to do this
and the manual itself seems to suggest that, generally speaking, there is always more than one way to do something with the MK-3.
I need some help to understand the architecture of this machine or I will never really understand what I would be doing... :(
