8pre vs mk3 units

New to the forum here. I've owned an 8pre for a few years norm and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm wondering if adding an 828mk3 hybrid will improve my sound any. Are the preamps and convertors better in the mk3 units? I think my 8pre is equivalent to the mk2. Not 100% sure about that though.

Hi,
Here is a partial answer, because it does not contain info on 8pre.

Add the mkIII if you need additional I/O and/or CueMix FX; otherwise, probably not much point.

Are there any differences between the mk2 and mk3 units? (in regards to features/preamps)

MkII has Cuemix but no hardware FX like the MkIII's EQ/COmpression/Reverb.
MkII has a single litepipe in and out port. MkIII has two of each.

No problem. I've had my MkII for about eight years. Still going strong despite daily use of ALL the I/O it provides. I don't miss the built-in FX and use a Lexicon external box for reverb while tracking. Works great with a Litepipe 8 channel mic pre. If you go that route, I recomend clocking via Wordclock BNC. I run MkII as a clock slave to my pre unit, a Digimax FS, which also provides 8 additional line outs.
