Meter Bridge Use

Maybe a very fine point here, but I was wondering while mastering a project with a few audio tracks and a Master Fader track how to have a little more "control" over the meter bridge.

After expanding the window which always seem to opening in it's smallest setting by default, you get all the audio and the master track when using the Tracks selector on the left. I found that a little distracting as I really only wanted to see the audio tracks in comparison.

The workaround is set the tracks you want to see next to each other in the Tracks Overview window and resize the Meter Bridge window to "hide" the tracks you don't want to see (in my case, the Master Track - which appears at the extreme right of the Meter Bridge when it is below the other tracks in the Overview window.

OK, fine, but now when comparing levels in the Meter Bridge, they sometimes bounce so fast it's hard to see where the discrepancies are. The workaround there is to grab the Scale indicator with the mouse and move it until you are just a little below the optimum level you want. Then when a track hit the sweet spot of the level you want, it will illuminate briefly. Too hot and it jumps up quite obviously. Too low and you won't see the indicator.

Ideally, it would be great to have a track selector type option in the Meter Bridge as we do in other windows. A longer peak hold time (or a permanent peak hold indicator for the highest levels) would also be a welcome addition. In the mean time, I hope these workarounds are helpful to some members trying to set levels precisely.

The flexibility of DP never ceases to amaze me.

So true. Not to mention the results I'm getting from DP these days. I wish you could hear the raving responses of some folks for whom I've been doing some recording lately. Lifetime performers in their 50s and 60s saying they're hearing the best recordings they've ever heard. While the performers in the recordings have a lot to do with that, and the hall and fabulous Steinway, I've got to say that DP and the amazing plugins I'm using (very conservatively, I might add) make all the difference. These are folks who have recorded all their lives, performed with top orchestras, and who know what they're hearing.

Not to get off-topic, but it's just that during the editing and mixing process, I'm constantly reminded of how cool are the tools I'm using. For some reason, when I'm working for myself I don't notice it so much, but when others are freaked out by it, it brings it all home again.

What I am also finding is that as I use DP and explore the features more and more, my mixes are getting better and better. My clients and collaborators also comment on the clarity improvements over other studios.

DP - Maybe it should be called Digital Pro...?

+1.

Yes, please! I always need that when adjusting input gain.
Also would love to see track names in MeterBridge window too and custom colours for indicator bars would be great!

Maybe it has been changed a while ago, I'm still on 5.12. Rock solid for my audio needs.

Track names are at the bottom of the indicator.

I am having this same experience. Most of it is that each project teaches me something new, but it's more than that, I am becoming faster and more efficient and more creative because the platform is so unbelievably stable and reliable. This is really a fine piece of software, I trust it completely.

I'm finding that audio editing is easier than ever. As I use more and more of the recent features, I'm blown away with how easy it is to get what you want out of the audio, and how transparent are the marks of your intervention. In other words, even before applying fades, 99% of the time it already sounds as if it was just recorded that way.

I wish we could have the track selector for the Meter Bridge, in addition to the listed controls. The thing is, you kind of need a bus selector, too. It's like there needs to be a deep level window where you can check exactly what you want to appear in the meter bridge as well as arrange the order. The Meter Bridge has tremendous diagnostic capabilities, if you can juxtapose the right tracks next to each other. Less so when you have to switch views or scroll to compare. But I'm very glad to have what's there. Like so many things in DP, the first time you see it you might think "what's the big deal about adding THAT as a feature?" Then as time goes on you find it useful, and then you learn more and more how to use them and discover things that take it to a whole new level of usefulness.

Combine all the little features and their newfound workflow tricks, and you get radically improved mixes. Funny how that works.

Yes, thats when you check the "tracks" view. But when viewing the "inputs" section I just get channel numbers. I guess it's the info from soundcard and I can't find a way to change it inside or outside DP. Maybe it's changed in later versions of DP?
