Inspired by the thread above (or below) I went through a few classical playlists I have setup and heard "Promentory" from the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack by Randy Edeleman. I dunno if anyone is familiar with the piece but I'm trying to get my head around the shift in tempo and feel. It seems the fiddles at the beginning have an almost 12/8 feel playing a traditional tune called "The Gael" although the percussion is in 4/4, the main theme however is firmly dropped in as 4/4 but somehow the two different time signatures work perfectly. Am I hearing things or is the introduction (Gael theme) in 12/8?

Just watched the piece being performed live at the Edinburgh Tattoo and they shifted the whole thing into 6/8 during one performance.
