How to enable SMART : Solved

Hi I cloned my boot drive w SuperDuper:
journal extended
Both drives are same exact make model etc....500 gig WD black 7200
I am planning to get the hd mount kit to install the drive to the empty 2nd optical bay(hope not too complicated)
anyway...
I have the drive running via USB & noticed it says SMART status not supported.
Is this because I have running via USB? or did I clone it incorrectly?
How do you enable SMART status?
Or is it just need to be used SATA?

Never mind just talked to OWC
SMART status not supported externally via USB

Did you go with Maxconnect or OWC? I have the MC and works great (in my iMac).

going to do the OWC mod, nervous about removing the fan & hooking cable to logicboard but it should be easy enough to diy.
it will be nice to have a cloned boot drive mounted internally ready just in case......
