How do I connect a microphone to my desktop computer to use for online karaoke? I would like to hook up a microphone for online karaoke. I bought a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter from radio shack to hook a standard microphone to the microphone jack in the back of the computer, but I get no sound. Does this need software or a driver for a microphone? Help please.

Is it April 1 already? Or is it disgruntled member day (again)?

This sounds like the guy who bought and returned my Mytek audio interface because he couldn't get any signal from his mic when he plugged it into the AES/EBU jack on the back (eBay knows nothing about audio so fell for his ruse).

This will not work - never has on a Mac. You need to drive the input at -10dB line level. This requires an audio interface.

There used to be a special microphone that Apple made but that hasn't worked in a long time.

If you want to plug a mic directly into a Macintosh, it must be a usb mic. You can get them for les than $100 from many online and music stores.
