Finder copy ...can't complete error -36

I was copying a 12 GB DP project from a 1 TB drive attached to an high speed PCI USB card, to an internal ATA Seagate 60 GB, and it gives ... finder cant complete ... data couldn't be read or written .... error -36 message...
If I start over, another file is causing it...
DP runs fine from this external 1TB USB drive, as well, a save a copy with audio works too...
Ignore ownership is on on all drives...
DiskUtility checked, DiskWarrior checked.
Anybody has a clue ?
TIA
Klaus

You might try compacting the entire project folder (in the OS not in DP!) and moving the zipped file. That way the OS only has one file to think about.

I recall a similar problem that turned out to be characters in some of the filenames that one or more of the drives could not deal with, or filenames with too many characters. Reducing to a single zip should deal with either, if this is the problem.

The drive has 3 partitions, HFS+, NTFS and FAT32, each 330GB
A File that triggers the error-36 is
i.e.
'1 Kick-02.sd2'
When I copy this file only, error -36 too, but the file is copied and has the same size, and plays in audiofinder...
Somehow I have the feeling the finder can't keep up when copying...
?
I'll try an USB 1 connection without the USB 2 PCI card now...
Zipping will need double the diskspace...
but works...
any more clues ?
TIA
Klaus

Instead of copying via USB 1, I rebooted into 10.5.8 testpartition and here it works...
Driver problem in Tiger ? ( where I usually work with my G4 dual 1.2 MDD )

Make sure all drives are formatted as "Mac OS Extended"
I have had that error when the USB drive was formatted FAT 16 on large files.

12 GIGS

is a large project especially when maybe 1 gig is on the timeline... sorry but if it's not on the timeline is GONE!

There's your culprit right there. Windoze-related
I dealt with this long ago, and all I could do is dig file by file to discover a too-long file name for Windoze to handle. I had to do it manually, and it was not much fun.
If there's a chance you could reformat that HD to Mac format it would most likely avoid this problem in the future.

Like I said...
3 partitions
HFS+
NTFS
FAT32
From the macs I only use the HFS+ partition on these drives...
Copying only works from within 10.5.8...
So somehow it 'must' be a Tiger / PPC problem, not ?

According to Apple Support, not - but who knows?
The only times I have ever run into a -36 error, it was copying to a USB flash drive that had not been formatted properly. Come to think of it, one time was on a PPC under 10.4. The other time, it was another connected to my iMac in 10.6.8 - the PPC could read and write to it.

I'm starting to believe that it is a Tiger PPC USB driver issue...
could be the PCI card that is to new for Tiger...
or not for mac...

hii,,

Finder error is quite a frustrating on as you you will be unable to copy or move a file. You may try to restart the Finder application or change the permission setting of the file you want to transfer. you can also try to reduce the file size..If any of your data is lost due to this error you can recover it easily. You can get more details about this error and recovering data here below.
