Back in the day (like 5 years ago?) disabling widgets solved slowdowns. Then it got better and it seemed fine. Apparently now it's back. I don't have a lot of widgets, but when they are enabled, even an 8 core Mac can seem sluggish - especially internet access.
Just a little heads up for jerks like me who thought it was safe to go back in the water again.
It' snot!

I never use them except the time/date and calculator. Thanks for the heads up.

I have also noticed w/ several Macs,a clean desktop can significantly improve performance.
From the way it has been explained to me if you have a cluttered desktop with icons,OSX resources are used because they are on the desktop.I was skeptical initially but too many times if my Mac is running weird/sluggish & I have a cluttered desktop a simple desktop cleaning will make a big improvement.
For me I prefer only having hd icons and little else on my desktop.
Myth, superstition or do you guys think there is something to this?
The friend who got me into this, work's at a publishing house as the System administrator /tech : all Mac 150 desktops, servers etc..
He maintains the flaw w/ OSX it sees anything on the desktop as open active and OSX resources are used addressing all of the icons/ widgets.
