MachFive 3 unable to mount MachFive 2 ufs soundbanks

I've been trying to get MachFive 3 to recognize the other ufs and dat files I have from Ethno, MSI, BPM, UVI and MachFive 2. When I find the disk image in the browser of MachFive and double click it says " unable to mount (soundbank name)" (invalid file). Any suggestions?

Have you tried it in standalone mode?

The ability of Mach5 v3 to read the sample data / program files of MSI & Ethno is an advertised feature…..I wonder, do the apps and ILok keys, plus the data files, have to be installed on your computer for the function to work, or is the .dat file and the respective ILok key enough?

You wouldn't need the ilok to read the data from another app, just to run the app itself - if I understand you correctly. There is also the browser in M5-3 itself which I am just now discovering the power of. Have you tried that?

Wow, MLC, you are fast and knowledgable - very cool.
Ok, so I don't own M5 v3 yet, I'm only considering it. I do own MSI, it's not installed, and as it appears that MOTU isn't really supporting it any longer, I don't intend to install it. I'm not thrilled with the library anyway, but some of the sounds are at least useable. So along comes M5 v3, and it's supposed to read the libraries from MSI & Ethno - I don't really need another sampler, but…there's one of the UVI pianos I really like, and the beast will read my MSI .dat file. So I have incentive, and admittedly, a little bit of gear lust. So then 'mdub' posts that M5 v3 won't open any of the .dat files for Ethno / MSI etc. on his computer……what's up? I thought it might be an ILok issue, or?
If I understand you correctly, the ILok only "authorizes" the app, and doesn't have anything to do with the .dat file, yes? Therefore, if I purchase and install M5 v3, install it's authorization on my existing ILok, copy the MSI .dat file to my hard drive, I should be good to go…..so why would 'mdub' be having a problem? A clarification would be helpful.
By the way, it's a good bet I'll be at West LA Music for the M5 v3 demo next Thursday.

Hey Terry,
I'll be one of the fat old guys in the room at West LA. Have fun figuring out which one... LOL!
I cannot speak for MSI as I don't have it and I don't like it. Whether or not samples load is a matter of format. I've been able to load pretty much anything that isn't ending in .nki and some things that do. Hit or miss.
But the library that comes with M5-3 is extensive and quite good. Even the stuff I didn't like I am tweaking. I think it is worth every penny and then some.
The better you sound, the more $$$ you should make... no? OK, maybe not, but you'll enjoy your poverty even more with M5... or not.

In the case of MSI and Ethno 1, you need the application bundle to be installed.
/Library/Application Support/MOTU/MSI/MSI.bundle
and
/Library/Application Support/MOTU/Ethno/Ethno.bundle
No need for all the plugin format ones
This only works in M5v3 32bits as well.

I'm getting the same results using standalone mode. There are two ways to navigate to the .ufs files:
1. clicking on an empty part, the window opens with the Search, Devices, and Places. Strangely the .ufs files are listed under Places but each one is grayed out.
2. From the browser on the left, I navigate to the folder where the .ufs files are located. Here I see disk image looking icons next to the files, but when I click to mount it says:
Unable to mount the Volume from '/Volumes/drive/folder/ufs file ' (invalid file)
The files are all available when using MachFive 2 or the UVI workstation

Here's how I fixed this:
I went into the Places list where the .ufs files appeared grayed out.
I control-clicked the gray file names and selected "Remove from Favorite Places"
I was able to then mount the disk images (except for MSI.dat)
I have the MSI bundle installed correctly and it works in UVI workstation and MachFive 2. MachFive 3 announces the error upon startup of the application.

If you running the StandAlone, you may need to check the Open in 32bits mode in Get Info panel (right click on the M5 app bundle)
MSI is not supported in 64bits operations.
