Old Motu Performer 5.5

Post by paideia »

Hello, the question is: I want to buy a LEGAL copy of an old Motu Performer 5.5 (not Digital...). I want this to run in a Mac Quadra 605. Is rare? Yes, but I like it. I suppose some people have it an I can buy it and transfer the license after contact with Motu. Thanks.

MOTU would be the best place to get that question answered.

For my own curiosity, what OS would you have on this machine?

7.6 was the final version of that OS when they put it to bed. It was available for a long time for free as a download from Apple. Probably still sitting on some ancient FTP server. It was pretty good as I remember.

I gave away my last machine that could run 7.x recently - I just had no more use for it but it still ran like a champ.

I didn't get into DP till 2.3 or so. I remember running it over OS 8.1. Seems like forever but it was only 15 years or so go. Did some nice work on it.

I used that exact set up for years playing live with perfomer. 030 os and 7.5. Never crashed and never gave me trouble. I always regretted giving away the 605 when I upgraded down the road. played a lot of gigs and did a lot of writing on that combo of OS and 7.5. I have the original disks somewhere in storage. I was always glad I kept a system going before I was finally able to go with dp so I could get all the old files transferred over.

Why? Because my iMac is actually the iMac family and therefore not always available when I want to make music. The Quadra 605 with my Korg Wavestation EX helps me to just play something in MIDI and then work on the iMac with virtual instruments. I currently work with Opcode Studio Vision 3.0.5, but I get Motu Performer 5 because it is much better for my taste. But eventually, because I love that old machine. So the short answer to why is because I love it!

Now I know where to send my old SVP/WSAD files for realization! :). j/k. I also have a 7500 and WSSR for any old score needing re-doing.

And I just threw out my old Mac SE - and it still worked. Hmmm... "old Mac SE" is redundant.
