Traveler and Speaker Noise

Hello All,

I have a older model Traveler and recently developed a noise coming through the speakers ( a sound similar to a sea shell sound) anyway. I tried different cables, connecting and disconnecting and the only solution was when I plugged in the wall-wart. I tried the traveler on a different computer in a different location with the same results. The folks at MOTU do not have an answer other then for me to send it in for repair. Has anyone else encountered this before? My best guess it has to do with the firewire port. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I too have had a lot of issues with noises from the mk3. First it was a *tst, bzz, tsk* noise. It happened every 30 seconds or so and only from the first audio output. This was linked to the firewire port of the iMac I was using, as it seems to be resolved when the Mac was replaced.

Now with the new Mac in place I was doing some work a day ago and heard a slight crackle on Mic Input 4. Over the course of a few hours while investigating the issue, the noise became progressively worse.

Currently with nothing connected to the input and 48v off the channel sounds dusty and dirty, like a bad cable would, while the trim pot creates an audible click when adjusted. With 48v engaged I get a similar sound to what you describe, like a wind blowing or like listening to a sea shell.

This is the second Traveler mk3 I had (the first came with a damaged firewire port), and so far they are not winning me over. I will say MOTU have been decent when it comes to responding to my emails though.

I know this doesn't solve your issue but hopefully someone out there can help us both.

Did you try the Traveler with the wall wart plugged in. My noise went away when I did that, but that doesn't help when I'm on the move.

The Traveler has always been connected to the mains. Doesn't seem to fix the issue.
To top it off this morning a second Pre Amp failed, producing the same noise.

When I can, I will rip the thing out and test it in another room with another system, but I'm not very hopeful.
