Can't install Windows 7 - 64 424 driver - Help needed

Have a brand new drive with Windows 7 64 bit installed nice and fresh.
Tring to install the MOTU 424PCI driver off the MOTU download page.
The Windows installer does not recognize the setup program as a valid
install program and requests I check with the vendor. Ultimately trying
to install ProTools 9, but I have to get the interfaces to work first.
All I get is a couple of flashed by panels, then the message...no error
codes or other info. It is as if the setup program is empty or corrupted. I have tried multiple download attempts......
Others seem to have installed these drivers....what is my problem?
I am logged in with admin priveleges, have plenty of disk space, and
the only program I currently have installed is Audacity...the interfaces
are a 2408 MKIII and MKII.....424 card is removed for driver install..
as requested by instructions....

I need ProTools for a client requesting it, and I use it at another job
so this will make life a little easier...eventually...:(

Thanks,

Hey...

Make sure you are downloading/installing the same architecture as your Windows.

i.e. 32 (x86) or 64 (x64) bit

If that isn't the issue, disable UAC, reboot and retry.

Also, if needed, uninstall any 3rd party anti-virus and/or firewalls present while downloading/installing.

If you have any download helpers installed and working, download without that.

Thanks folks - you will have to talk Win 7 baby talk to me...I have
a total of 3 hours experience with this new OS.

I did not purchase or install any antivirus, or anything else - this
is a stock install on a new drive to dual boot my primary studio
machine. Normally runs XP and Sonar....

For grins I tried the 32 bit and it informed me I needed the 64 bit...so
the setup is smart enough to not let me make that mistake....64 is what I downloaded.

What is UAC and where do I disable it....there isn'teven a Windows
Classic setting to help me figure where everything is.....

Problem solved...a helpful call to Brian at MOTU clued me
in that in Win 7 you need to manually extract the zipped files.
Even though it shows the contents, the files are not properly
extracted until the folder is selected and 'extract' is selected
....my ignorant mistake...all is well, the 2408s are functional
(so far anyway), and I can proceed to ProTools 9....

Ah, very cool! Good job MOTU!

To avoid this in the future, install Winrar.

That's what I use for all compressed files and never need to extract first from an archive. I simply click the archive to open it (Winrar opens) and then I click the install file within Winrar and all goes as planned from there.

Or of course, simply extract first like you did, instead.

Glad to hear all is well!

Just an update. I am halfway through my first ProTools 9
project on this machine. All is working well so far...except I
can't get my M-Audio DIO 2496 card working - no surprise as it is now
a 'Legacy' card and the Delta series driver is not explicitly for
this card. All panels show up well, screen meters jiggle, etc...but no
sound. The machine is completely stripped down for this work...nothing
but the card drivers, Adobe Reader (for help files), Internet Explorer
for updates, and Audacity for the odd 2 track work. Not a single
failure, hang or BSOD to this point. I did have to exclude all ProTools directories and plugins from the built-in Win 7 security
stuff to enable ProTools to load in a reasonable time...and disable the
User Account Control as per the ProTools instructions. I am using a 2408 MKIII and MKII connected to a 424 card feeding a TASCAM 3200...

So one positive experience with this combination....

Denny-

Have you checked the M-Audio site recently? They have released a win 7 driver that includes the Delta series. Here's the link.....

My 2496 is running great under Win 7 64-bit.

Best of luck.....Edison
